[edit] Kindergarten & Family Village

Note: Theres also the idea of a "family village", which will be seperate from the kindergarten, but both topics are handled on this page.

Hackers grow older, and a lot of them have forked and spawned child processes. Of course, hackers of all age are welcome, and so we're looking forward to having children on the Camp.

We will have a self-organized children's area on the camp. To get a feel for how big the area needs to be, please leave a name and age (at time of camp) here when you intend to bring children to the camp. Also, please leave a note if you would volounteer to help out in the children's area for a few hours.

Please note down when you will bring your kids to the camp, wether you want to participate in the village and wether you would volunteer to watch the kids when other parents are at some workshop or similar. --Mc 19:55, 15 April 2007 (CEST)

Put further improvement ideas down in the brainstorm area. Thank you! --Mc 19:55, 15 April 2007 (CEST)

[edit] Kindergarten

The Kindergarten is a area for free playing for all children at the Camp - anytime. Also, we do have some basics here, like colors, that can be asked for playing in the kindergarten area - you can ask any person in the tents behind the little aeroplane.

We have set up a schedule of activities, to start with, but we are hoping for a lot more contributors. Everything is welcome, from explaining children fun technical equipment, to juggling lessons, to a drone flying show, to games and handicraft. Some people have given already some very nice ideas in the brainstorming section, but have not gotten in contact with us yet. Please update the wiki if you are prepared for castlebuilding or alike and when you have time to do it.

[edit] Family Village

  • How about a Family Village, let's say at a bit a quiet place for sleeping children and within reasonable distance to sanitary and other facilities? Bine 2-3-2007
  • Would be very nice! Hairy Scary 19-3-2007
  • Yes, let's see wether we can request something. --Mc 19:46, 15 April 2007 (CEST)
  • I second the motion for a Family Village --La23ng 00:05, 4 May 2007 (CEST)
  • Talking about sanitary facilities - I'm afraid that these Dixi loos are not really nice for medium-sized children... Does anybody see any chance of having some other facilities for the kids? Or maybe we can have one or two "children-only" Dixi loos near the family village which we could take care of? (I'd volunteer to do some cleaning) -- Honeybunny
    • Re: we will have fixed toilets at the camp, no dixies, they'll look like this --Elisa 18:05, 15 July 2007 (CEST)
  • Please look at Image:Campkarte.png; For the *Family Village*: Would you prefer to camp near the Kindergarten (which may be noisy, spare of place and might get more "visitors") or in the no-camera zone? Ill try to get some dedicated space so the Family "Village" can stick together.
  • I do like the no-camera zone and also the zone between NOC (8) and Snack Bar (6). These are reasonably close to the Kindergarten but are not in the main area. It would be great if there were some trees to shade the tents, especially for the little ones that sleep during daytime. I will try to bring a Tarp to add some more shade. Thanks for taking care of us! -- Honeybunny
  • I agree with Honeybunny - For our Family Village, I think the zone between NOC and Snackbar, to the right side of the road, just within the no-camera zone, would be perfect. Trees, not too far from sanitary facilities and and the kindergarten. Ideal, I'd say. I think closer to the Kindergarten, means also closer to the noise and further away from the sanitary facilities, thus I guess that's not such a great option. If you guys agree, I'd go check with the organisation if we can do a reservation for our village, as the poster before the last one didn't leave his or her name. cheerio, Bine 22:31, 10 July 2007 (CEST
  • I'm not sure if the no-camera zone is the right place for families, because most parents like to photograph their children. What about the area east of shelter 10? However, there are almost no trees there. But maybe we need the sun to dry our tents if weather is rainy ;-)
  • Hm. I don't think that between the Foo-Bar children will be able to get their rest. I also think that the no-camera zone is not that strictly handled - guess no one's making a big fuzz about parents taking pics of their children. It's less the no-camera policy, why people above opted for the marked area, but more the way it's situated. As long as you don't run around and take shots of folks you don't know, it's fine, i'd say. if we manage to set up our village on the border to the no-camera zone, it'll be fine anyways. but let's see what the others think. cheerio, Bine 13:57, 24 July 2007 (CEST)
  • the location best suited for the family village, in regards to closeness to kindergarten and sanitary facilities as well as protection against noise (bunkers) and sun (commonly referred to as trees) - the orga-team does not reservate any areas. so, whoever is first at camp, please set up your tent in the area marked below and make it somehow visible that this is the start of the family village. :o) cheerio, Bine 21:49, 22 July 2007 (CEST)
    • We will arrive on Monday and we'll try to find a nice spot in that area. We'll try to bring a flag (a rainbow-coloured "PACE" flag) which could serve as signpost. -- Honeybunny 26 July 2007
    • Hi all, I've had a look at googlemaps, and the area we have chosen for the family village is packed with little areoplanes - and i am not sure if the area a bit further into the no camera zone is not occupied by villages that may have slightly different interests than the family village (like party all through the night). Seen googlemaps, I think that south of the heaven, at the edge of the forest, might also be an OK spot for the family village - but it's the furthest away from the kindergarten possible. how about the first ones have a look and see where the best place is and then we put a info-sheet up at the entrance, so that the arriving families know where about we have started building the village. cheerio and see you soon! Bine 16:34, 3 August 2007 (CEST)
    • The problem is not where to build the family village at the beginning, but whats put arround it in the days after. Is there an overview about which village is build where? And is it possible to have a *low noise* zone? eg: no loud music after xx:xx or so? so that other villages are aware of our presence? Or in the worst case.. relocating the kindergarten towards the family village? (It might be to late to arrange that.)--Hairy Scary 18:11, 3 August 2007 (CEST)
    • Couldn't find any locations mentioned at the couple of other villages where i looked. i also could not find any info on a low noise zone, like at WTH. but i don't think it's a prob, as the best decision is anyways made on the spot, when you see the area in real. so, let's communicate where we are by means of an infosheet at the entrance - we'll see then. :) see you soon! *happy bounce* Bine 18:41, 3 August 2007 (CEST)

Maybe this loction is not correct - see the infosheet at the entrance on where the Family Village is going to be: The family village is AT the Kindergarten! A sign says no camping, but thats only ment for non-families!!please contact Bine or Hairy Scary for information--Hairy Scary 01:04, 8 August 2007 (CEST) 150px Bine 21:49, 22 July 2007 (CEST)

[edit] Brainstorm

Let's do some brainstorming, on what we are going to do in the Kindergarten? How about collecting ideas, then later making a sort of time schedule. We should also think about how we coordinate the preparations and how we deal with the costs. Bine 22:49, 10 July 2007 (CEST)

[edit] Things to do

[edit] Basics

  • Fingerpaints and other colors, loads of paper - normal ones and extra large ones. Bine 22:36, 10 July 2007 (CEST)
  • colored paper, glue, feathers, scissors, etc Bine 22:36, 10 July 2007 (CEST)
  • Baloons, kids love ballons

[edit] Other stuff

  • Would it be fun to build a giant cardboard castle? http://www.mrmcgroovys.com/castle.htm -- Alx 17-4-2007
    • yes, cool idea - but who should do this? Think, the parents wouldn't have the time for... -- atoll 14-5-2007
    • re: "giant cardboard castle" Very good idea. Who will organize the 8 refrigerator boxes??? I don't have enough transport capacity. But I would like to volunteer to build up the stuff.. --Vi 11:39, 19 June 2007 (CEST)
    • Blueloop and the HyperHeroes thinking of building a Hexayurt. All childrens are welcome to help. Please bring plenty of Cardbord, Foil and Gaffatape!!!111
  • large plastic, soap, buckets of water, tennis balls - then the kids can run, jump and shoot on their belly over the soaped

plastic, trying to collect tennis balls. Bine 22:36, 10 July 2007 (CEST)

  • anyone there who did the waterrockets at WTH? guess that'll be fun too.Bine 22:36, 10 July 2007 (CEST)
  • I coordinated more or less the kindergarten aka familyvillage at WTH http://wiki.whatthehack.org/index.php/Familyvillage] and did also the Waterrockets at WTH. But im still not sure im able to come. If i do come, ill be there at thursdayevening. Probaly only with one or to small tents. If i do have enough time, i might bring the whole camping gear so we can bake pancakes and having a kidsparty like the one at WTH.--Hairy Scary 00:25, 29 July 2007 (CEST)
  • Most kids love dressing up. Maybe some campers will lend out funny hats and things?
  • I can bring my face-painting stuff?
  • How about a reading hour? I think most parents will remember to bring their childs favourite bedtime book or E-book :) Being a teacher in real life, reading to children is one of my live's purposes :)
  • A dance workshop? Amfion, NOP village[1]
  • I fixed the waterrocketlauncher! Please do bring some PET bottles and waterhose couples (the wire inside!!) and gastape. See for details: Waterrockets at WTH --Hairy Scary 20:50, 4 August 2007 (CEST)
  • What about making this nice paper penguin? (Sorry I've no color laser printer to supply you with the material). Skrupellos 11:52, 5 August 2007 (CEST)

[edit] Coordination

  • We'll enter any timely fixed activities here in the Wiki under the topic "Schedule of activities". We is everyone who wants to do an activity with the kids, timely fixed means that the person who makes the entry in the schedule shows up on time and is prepared - please always leave contact data in the schedule table, in case of colliding/rearranging.
  • Anyone who's there at Monday 6 August - let's meet in the Family Village in the evening (around 7 pm?) and exchange ideas and plan a bit. Future meetings we will also announce here. :) Bine 22:11, 3 August 2007 (CEST)
  • Good plan! My aim is to be there on monday arround 1400 or 1500, the big tent i used on WTH included. A look at the family list tells me there should be space for about 8 to 10 tents.--Hairy Scary 01:46, 4 August 2007 (CEST
