Wer bei einem Patch an eine neue verbesserte Software-Version denkt, der hat natürlich recht. Aber was heißt Patch eigentlich noch? Im Englischen versteht man darunter auch ein Pflaster, ein Fetzen oder einen Flicken.
Mit Software verbinden wir Patches nur weil in der Computer Steinzeit Daten auf Loch- und später dann auch Magnetstreifen abgelegt wurden. Wenn jetzt etwas geändert werden soll dann müsste man einen Teil des Streifens herausschneiden und einen neuen einkleben – mit einem Fetzen Klebeband wurde das Band also geflickt.
