FediDay 2026

TL;DR

  • 2 ½ day conference around the Fediverse
  • talks, workshops, panels, party
  • 11–13 September, Berlin

The Fediverse is not one platform – it’s a universe of its own. It contains microblogging and longreads, videoclips and images, podcasts and music and much much more. It is running on a diversity of software, operated by different communities but all connected by open protocols. What holds it together isn’t a company or a business model — it’s a shared idea about how we communicate online and who holds the control of that.

We are convinced that a decentralised and free network is the best way to establish a sustainable alternative to Big Tech. This is the only way to enable democratic exchange without being dependent on platforms controlled by profit-driven monopolists, which use algorithmically generated timelines to serve us adverts, promote right-wing baiting or hide content they find objectionable.

The 3rd Berlin FediDay is a networking event for people in the Fediverse. Through talks, workshops and networking opportunities, we aim to spread knowledge about the Fediverse, promote creative solutions and strengthen dialogue between developers, admins, academia, civil society and content creators. With over 70 sessions across three halls, a workshop room and several cosy meeting spots stretching from the banks of the Spree to the roof terrace, FediDay is the largest conference dedicated to alternative social networks. It will take place 11–13 September at c-base.

Fediday is organised by members of the community who have been volunteering for over half a year to put on a low-budget conference. To ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible, we definitely need ‘angels’ – that is, ‘helping hands’ – to support us. You’re probably familiar with the ‘angel’ system at Chaos events. Please consider whether you’d like to help out for around 8 hours – whether it’s with setting up, in the lecture rooms, behind the information desk or bar, or with other tasks. It’s definitely a great way to meet interesting people and get a glimpse behind the scenes. As a thank you, we’re offering all ‘angels’ discounted entry, a brunch buffet and an Angel T-shirt.
