So... where are the official torrents? It's kinda sad to see there are none, and even previous years' torrents are gone... What gives?
From last year's tweets it appears like there are a few reasons for that:
- MirrorBits doesn't support torrents
- There are some tough challenges with re-releasing talks
On top of that, did you realize how many talks are being translated by amazing simultaneous interpreters? This means each talk is not only available in a variety of resolutions, but also in a variety of languages, and sometimes even multiple times to fix issues.
To add a bit more context: the recording team is cranking those recordings out at a speed where there's no way they can make sure every recording is 100% great. So every once in a while, it turns out that an already-released talk needs major re-work; maybe audio is broken or something else. When this happens, a specific talk may be fixed, and an updated recording released. And that is something that's really hard to handle with BitTorrent.
Anyway, this doesn't make the situation less annoying for attendees in a different time zone, who want to watch the talks and prefer BitTorrent.
