|Description|| This talk will give a short introduction to "The Federation" of decentral social networks as alternatives to the big walled gardens.
With a short historical overview of how it all began almost a decade ago with Laconica, followed by Diaspora and Mistpark. Who is part of "The Federation" today? How are those projects glued together? What is the current state of free software alternatives like Diaspora, Friendica, GNU Social, Hubzilla, Media Goblin, pump.io and compatible networks. How might the future be looking with the recent work by W3C Social WG.
