We tried mass demonstrations against surveillance ("Freiheit statt Angst", "Stop Watching Us!"), and failed. Now we are trying to stop it one court case at a time. But we could do more. We could campaign for a kind of Internet that technically cannot be surveilled. And we can make it a legal requirement for a Next Generation Internet. We could pressure our parliaments to require that all computers and phones sold after a certain year function with technology that does not put what's left of our democracies at risk of systematic surveillance and mass manipulation. Let's discuss this. We need a new campaign, we need a clear political request (that political parties can support and citizen can petition for) and we need to organize demonstrations on the streets not against surveillance but for safe and civil-rights-respectful technology, because we all want to enjoy the advantages of digitalization, but not in the stupid brainless way the industry is providing it! We don't want China style social scoring to even be technically possible!
