Ecobytes is a non-commercial collective that has been providing hosting and services for the grassroots for the last 8 years. Recently established as a non-profit association, we are currently seeking and experimenting models for solidary, community-supported distribution of costs of hosting and service provision, as well as agile models for the development of the infrastructure and services delivered to the community of users.
Support for the commons and commons-based peer production of knowledge and, of course, the support of FLOSS are keystones of Ecobytes.
Most of our members are directly involved in social movements, we have a cooperative and agile work model.
A main current focus on the web applications side is the development of the co-munity platform, an extension of Drupal Open Atrium 2 distribution
Ecobytes is based in Witzenhausen (kein Witz!), more or less on the middle of Germany, at the Transition House. There we also organise an hackerspace (1x week) and hackatons.
