Chaos BBQ Weekend

Hallo Chaoten!

Auch dieses Jahr ist wieder ein Chaos BBQ Weekend geplant. Vom 8. Juli 2011 bis zum 10. Juli 2011 ist in Dortmund wieder Grillen und gute Laune angesagt. Da wir nicht ohne Vorträge auskommen, ist unten ein Call for Papers angehängt, so dass ihr Eure Vorträge und guten Ideen einreichen könnt.

Der Chaostreff Dortmund geht also in diesem Jahr wieder mit einem ‘chaos bbq weekend’ an den Start, es soll unter dem Motto “enter to escape” stehen. Vom 8. bis 10. Juli soll neben dem obligatorischen (auch vegetarischen) “Zeug vom Grill” wieder “feed the head” im Vordergrund stehen. Dafür möchten wir eine möglichst große Bandbreite an Vorträgen, Workshops und Lightning talks zur Verfügung stellen.

Damit die Besucher des Events die Veranstaltung mit möglichst vielen neuen Ideen im Kopf hinter sich lassen können, brauchen wir Deine Mithilfe. Wenn Du zum angebenen Termin Lust und Zeit haben solltest, DeinThema(TM) an den Mann (respektive Frau bzw. den Nerd) zu bringen, dann reich Deinen Vorschlag
ein. Das kann auch ein Vortrag sein, den Du schon an anderer Stelle ($beliebigeNerdVeranstaltung)
bereits (mehr oder weniger) erfolgreich gehalten hast ;)

Aktuell haben wir (aus eigenem Repository) schon verschiedene Vorträge auf dem Plan, so zum Beispiel:
* ipv6
* iptables
* something about virtualization
* home automation
und einen Workshop über
* windowfarms

Wenn sich jetzt in Dir spontan das Bedürfnis entwickelt hat, Dich mit DeinemSenf(tm) einer interessierten Öffentlichkeit zu stellen, dann fühl Dich frei, Deinen (aussagekräftigen) Vorschlag bis einschließlich 31. Mai an bbq@chaostreff-dortmund.de zu senden. Kurzvorträge (etwa zwanzig Minuten) und Lightning Talks können wir auch danach noch annehmen und die ‘on the fly’ ins bbq einbauen.

May 7th: Camp 2011 – Field Day

We invite everybody to join us for a public visit to the location of the Chaos Communication Camp 2011 at Luftfahrtmuseum Finowfurt [1]. Everybody who wants to do a project, put up a really big tent, build a village or do anything special in one way or the other should come.

The visit takes places at Saturday, May 7th, 2011 at 14:00h CEST. We will spend around two to three hours at the site depending on interest. Be careful to be on time as we won’t explain things twice.

If you plan to come, please drop your name in the wiki [2]. There you will also find driving instructions, aerial photographs and maps of the area and some of our ideas how to organize the campsite.

Camp 2011 Needs Your Help

Preparations for this year’s Chaos Communication Camp have started.

If you don’t know about the Camp in general have a look at the 2007, 2003, and 1999 web sites. You should also watch these great videos in order to get a first impression: Camp 2007 and Camp 2003

Actually, we’ve been working on Chaos Communication Camp 2011 – Project Flow Control – for quite some time, but finally there is a web site now. Since we’re a bit late already, we really need your support.

First and foremost we need your help in distributing the Call for Participation and the Call for a Space Program of the Hacker Scene.

If you’d like to give a lecture or organize a workshop on topics dealing with space exploration, technology, ethics, science, security, art, philosophy, politics, culture or cooking make a submission to our submission system!

Moreover, we need help with designing web and print publications, t-shirts and many other things. You may notice that our current web site is not that beautiful. For that reason we’ve also published a Call for Design. If you’re a capable graphics designer or happen to know someone who is and might be crazy enough to spend days, only receiving fame and glory in return, please read it and contact us!

Termin für die Datenspuren 2011

Die Datenspuren sind eine der wenigen CCC-Veranstaltungen, die noch nicht hoffnungslos überlaufen sind (natürlich zu Unrecht).

Wer also auf dem Congress kein Ticket bekam oder jetzt beim Easterhegg auch leer ausgeht, kann mit den Datenspuren glücklich werden. Diese finden am 15.10. und 16.10.2011 – wie immer in der Dresdener Scheune – statt. Eintritt kostenlos.

Noch gibt es keinen Fahrplan, nicht mal einen CfP. Vielleicht helfen Euch aber die Mitschnitte der vergangenen Datenspuren, um zu entscheiden, ob Ihr Euch den Termin für die diesjährigen Datenspuren im Kalender freihaltet.

Change of Plan — Video Streams For Peace Missions

In one of our last posts we’ve invited all peace missions to register their IP addresses by mail. Registered IP addresses will be granted access to a dedicated video streaming relay.

We’ve received mails from lots of people, who’d like to set up a peace mission and gave us their IP address. So far, so good – it’s cool to see so much interest. Unfortunately, now you’ve invested time for sending us an email, we do change the registration procedure.

There will be a web site, where peace missions can register. After we’ve acknowledged a registration you may add or change your IP address on the white list.

Those of you, who already sent us an email, please re-register again by using that web interface.

We don’t know the URL yet, but we’ll post it as soon as we know it here and on the Peace Missions page in the wiki.

Bring Your DVB-T receivers

Beim 27C3 werden alle Vorträge live und in Farbe im und um das bcc via DVB-T ausgestrahlt. Den Besuchern des 27C3 ist es damit möglich, Vorträge auch von außerhalb zu folgen und damit die überfüllten Vortragssäle zu vermeiden.

Zum Empfang eignet sich jeder PC oder Laptop mit DVB-T-Stick, Fernseher mit DVB-T-Tuner, Handy mit DVB-T-Funktion, etc. Im Wiki werden wir evtl. notwendige Konfigurationsdateien hinterlegen und eine Liste mit gut und weniger gut funktionierenden Empfängern pflegen.

Die Bundesnetzagentur hat uns Kanal 22 (482MHz) zugeteilt, auf dem wir mit 6 Watt ERP senden werden.

Zuletzt gab es DVB-T beim 24C3, wobei es damals an manchen Stellen im Gebäude zu Empfangsproblemen durch Abschattungen kam. Dem Problem begegnen wir heuer mit deutlich gesteigerter Sendeleistung und geschickterer Platzierung der Sende-Antenne sowie einem neuen, verbesserten Modulator.

At 27C3 all lectures will be broadcast via DVB-T and reception will be possible in and around the bcc. Visitors can watch via TV if they want avoid overcrowded lecture rooms.

To receive the signal any PC with DVB-T-USB-Stick, TV set with DVB-T tuner or cellphone with DVB-T-function will work. We will publish all needed configuration files and a list of working and non-working receivers in the wiki.

The Bundesnetzagentur (German regulation body) has allocated channel 22 (482MHz) for us, where we will transmit with 6 watts ERP.

The last time DVB-T was available on Chaos Congress was at 24C3 where in some areas the signal was to much attenuated to be received properly. This year we come up against this with more transmission power, better
placement of the transmitter antenna and a new, better modulator.

Weitere Bezahlmöglichkeiten für 27C3-Tickets

Wie bereits an diversen Stellen erwähnt, sind die Zahlungsmöglichkeiten für den Congress dieses Jahr äußerst vielfältig.

Neben der klassischen Zahlung per Banküberweisung habt ihr ab sofort auch die Möglichkeit, wie folgt zu zahlen:

  • Per Bareinzahlung in den Erfas.
    Bitte beachtet, dass unter Umständen nicht alle Erfas diesen Service anbieten – und dass auch die Zahlungsstellen nicht rund um die Uhr anwesend sind. Eine Liste mit weltweit allen Cashdesks findet ihr unter /wiki/Cashdesks.
  • Zahlung per Kreditkarte
    Gegen eine zusätzliche Gebühr von 5% könnt ihr auch per Kreditkarte zahlen. Einen Link zur Zahlung findet ihr ab sofort im Presale-System.

Lasttest des Presale-Systems erfolgreich absolviert

Wie erwartet, wurde das Presale-System direkt nach dem Release einem Lasttest unterzogen, welchem es erfolgreich getrotzt hat. Der Ansturm auf den Presale ist und war enorm. Die Tickets des ersten Kontingents waren innerhalb kürzester Zeit ausverkauft.

Dennoch: Keine Panik.
Wie angekündigt wird es Anfang November, zum Release der ersten Fahrplanversion, ein weiteres, deutlich größeres Kontingent geben. Wer dieses Mal also kein Glück hatte, hat in den kommenden Kontingenten jeweils eine neue Chance.

Die bereits erstellten Accounts im System behalten ihre Gültigkeit und können bei den neuen Kontingenten wieder benutzt werden.

Das Kontingent für Engel (Golden Token) ist, wie bereits erwähnt, unabhängig vom Kontingent der normalen Token.

Für Fragen steht, wie gehabt, die FAQ zur Verfügung.

Performance test sucessfully survived!

As expected, the pre-sale-system has survived the performance check immediately to the release time.

The rush for the Pre-sale is still enormously. The tickets from the first Quota will be sold out in no time.

But: No Panic.

As announced, there will be a second, much larger, quota at the beginning of November. So anyone who had no luck this time get a new chance at the second quota.

The created accounts are also valid in the second quota.

The quota for our volunteers (Angels) from last year, dubbed ‘the golden token’, will be independent of the other “normal” quota.
