Digitalisierung und Nachhaltigkeit sind die entscheidenden, existenziellen Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts. Obwohl beide Themen stark miteinander wechselwirken, werden sie bislang noch viel zu wenig gemeinsam gedacht und diskutiert. Die Bits&Bäume-Bewegung möchte das ändern! Gemeinsam wollen Menschen aus der Nachhaltigkeitsbewegung und der Tech-Szene aufzeigen, was Digitalisierung und Nachhaltigkeit verbindet und rufen dazu auf, die Grenzen der eigenen Filterblasen zu erweitern. Die zentrale Fragen lauten dabei: Wie kann Digitalisierung vom Brandbeschleuniger sozialer und ökologischer Probleme zu einem Teil der Lösung werden und was können unsere Communities von einander lernen bzw. wie können wir die Kräfte vereinen für einen lebenswerte Welt und Zukunft – for all creatures.
Dies ist eine offene Bewegung, bislang mit vielen tragenden Organisationen und Personen. Dazu gehören etwa c3sustainability (c3sus), hackers against climate change (hacc) und Reuse, Repair, Recycle, Rethink, Redesign (R5), eine B&B-Gruppe an der TU Dresden, der AStA der TU Berlin, Chaos macht Schule Hannover oder auch größere Organisationen wie Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND), Brot für die Welt, Chaos Computer Club (CCC), Deutscher Naturschutz Ring (DNR), Forum InformatikerInnen für Frieden und gesellschaftliche Verantwortung (FIfF), Germanwatch, Institut für ökologische Wirtschaftsforschung (iöw), Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie (KNOE), Open Knowledge Foundation Deutschland (OKF), Technische Universität Berlin / Fachgebiet Sozial-ökologische Transformation (TU Berlin) sowie Netzpolitik.org.

("Bits & Bäume" is a German-language conference event, that started in 2018.)
Digitization and sustainability are the crucial, existential challenges of the 21st century. Although the two topics interact strongly, they is still far too little common thought and discussion. The "Bits & Trees" (Bits & Bäume) movement wants to change that! People from the sustainability movement and the tech scene come together to show the connections of digitalization and sustainability, inviting the limits of their own filter bubbles to be expanded. The central questions are: How can digitalization in relation to incendiary social and ecological problems become part of the solution, and what can our communities learn from each other - or, how we could combine forces towards a world and future worth living - for all creatures.
This is an open movement, already with many supporting organizations and people. These include c3sustainability (c3sus), hackers against climate change (HACC) and reuse, repair, recycle, rethink, redesign (R5 - a B&B group at the TU Dresden), the AStA of the TU Berlin, Chaos macht Schule Hannover; and also larger organizations, such as the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND), Bread for the World, Chaos Computer Club (CCC), German Nature Conservation Ring (DNR), Forum for Computer Scientists for Peace and Social Responsibility (FIfF), Germanwatch, Institute for Ecological Economic Research (iöw), Concept Work New Economy (KNOE), Open Knowledge Foundation Germany (OKF), Technical University Berlin / Department of Social-Ecological Transformation (TU Berlin) and Netzpolitik.org.
