Location

LOCATION: Unfortunately we won't have a location as nice as last year. We'll meet at the far end of the entrance hall: https://34c3.c3nav.de/l/c:-1:494.05:275.72/@-1,478.73,287.94,2.37 If you think you know a better location (indoors, no people, no holes in the floor where nerfdarts fit through, some "interesting" terrain/not just empty floor), please call me.

IMPORTANT #2: Timeslot changed from Day1 to Day3 (after midnight) to visit the All Creatures Welcome preview

IMPORTANT: 2y ago there was some confusion because the timeslot allocation and when the event is displayed on the schedule was broken when an event takes place after midnight. To be clear: The event takes place on Day 3 but after midnight, so technically on 2017-12-30 00:30h.

Let's have fun with Nerf guns! We will battle for 30', after that we'll take another 10' to collect foam darts.

Location: not fixed yet, because new location. I need to find a suitable corner of the building first. Will edit here as soon as I know where. Should the wiki be down during congress like all the other years, look for hand-written posters with the location, probably on a pillar near the infodesk or entrance to the hackcenter if there is anything comparable like in hamburg. (see above)

Three years ago there was a "Blasrohr", blowgun-style nerf dart acceleration device left over at the end, I took that home with me and will bring it back; contact me (or meet me at the event) if you lost it that congress.

Basic Rules

We would like the people to have fun so basically there will be no rules. Therefore we would like to ask you to act as thoughtful as possible.

Acting thoughtful means:

  • do not shoot uninvolved people
  • never target heads
  • keep appropriate distance
  • use only standard gear (no modded darts, no slingshots, …) -- I got this asked several times: yes, we all have modded our blasters to accomodate a rechargable battery pack and that's okay to bring, but for "overclocking" the motors, if it's designed to hurt instead of as a toy, it's probably not okay. Use common sense, the goal is fun for all participants and not hurting people.
  • stop immediately if someone calls a break
  • help people who need help
  • use goggles! (see below)

Required Hardware

Everyone is supposed to organize a weapon by himself. We will not provide you weapons or goggles nor will we be able to equip you with ammunition. Search the internet to find out where to buy Nerf-Guns and appropriate ammunition or ask folks taking part if they will share their weapons. Probably there will only be one or two blasters more than people, so don't count on it.

If you own more than one Nerf-Gun bring them around an share with others!

Be prepared for losing a good part of your ammunition. However, we will search for foam darts afterwards; because we don't want to create extra work for the cleaning crew.

Goggles

It is strongly recommended to wear something to protect your eyes. Laboratory glasses or sports glasses (like the ones used by floorball players) work well.

FAQ

What is a Nerf-Gun?

A Nerf Blaster is a toy gun made by Hasbro that fires foam darts, discs, or, in some cases, foam balls. The term "Nerf gun" is often used to describe the toy however, it is often used as a blanket term for any foam dart blaster, regardless of whether or not it has the Nerf brand name. Nerf blasters are manufactured in multiple forms, including pistols, rifles, and light machine guns. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerf_gun)

Isn't gun-fighting militaristic?

Bitch, it might be! Anyway. We see this battle as a game. Luckily most of us were never forced to use guns. For us shooting foam darts seems not to be more or less militaristic than a snowball fight.
