DAB+ Digital Radio Broadcasting using SDR and free open source tools ODR-mmbtools. Technical solutions for local radio stations. Usually DAB+ broadcasting require expensive equipment and is built for regional, national networks. However it is also possible for local stations if they can join efforts and request a licence. Local stations already use this in Switzerland (Geneva, Zurich), France, Denmark and experiences are going on in the UK.

This session is a workshop with the opportunity to discuss, make demo or test the system if you bring your own SDR transmission platform (Ettus USRP, HackRF,...). You can also come if you are not into technical details and want to know about how the licence and transmission have been organised.

  • Introduction, how is DAB+ used for local radio and which radios are on it
  • How the transmission is organised. Licence, planning, site buildup, transmission infrastructure, power amplification.
  • How the software tools work and how to use them.
  • Discussion, demo, tests,...
