THE ONE RING, FORGE A SILVER OR GOLDEN RING

goldsmithing/forging a silver or golden ring from a piece of metal, with a nice hammered and faceted look

workshop, making the one ring in a mobile goldsmith's workshop

We will be making a silver or gold forged ring, facettes of hammering will be visible and give a nice shine ( silver ring can be darkened to give a nice “gothic/industrial” look), continous workshop, all days, feel free to join whenever you like (not during night hours)

How to?: -measure the ring size -calculate length of material (2 x pi x r +half the thickness of the material) – for silver, compensate to 2 sizes smaller due to hammering, 50mm’s of 3mm square will be just fine in most cases.. – for gold, compensate to 1 size smaller due to hammering -fire up torch, heat up material to right temp, this will soften the metal -clean the metal in the sulfuric acid, removing all oxides -make the material the right length(use small figure saw, small file) (for hackers, make backup first) -bend the material in a rough round shape, using your hands and no tools, make sure the edges are as close to eachother and touch each other nicely -solder the gap ( using a tiny bit of solder, and enclosing the gap with flux) , before you solder the ring, you will practise soldering on a bit of brass, to get “the feel” -put the ring on the ringtool and shape it round with a plastic hammer -check size, mark the ringtool for the right size with a markerpen -gently hammer the ring, moving the ringtool evenly, after two or three full cirkels, check the ring size. you will start to feel the material getting harder again (especially in silver) -soften the metal once more, using the torch, make sure not to melt the solder -clean the metal in the sulfuric acid, removing all oxides -gently hammer the ring, moving the ringtool evenly, after two or three full cirkels, check the ring size. – blacken the silver ring, gently sand the outside to make a nice pattern – polish the golden ring, inside and outside, go for the shine

you are now a Ring-bearer, walk to mordor

disclaimer: the ring will not necessarely make you invisible, may attract powers of darkness

any other piece of jewellery on request and skill (and time/materials available), polishing of weddingrings etc. also on request
