Karolin Varner is the initiator of the Rosenpass project and leads the associated organization Rosenpass e. V.. In 2021, she began a research project on the development of post-quantum secure key exchange protocols. Having received very positive feedback from the academic cryptography community, she transitioned to research in early 2024 after a thirteen-year career in industry, in order to dedicate herself fully to the question of how to secure communication on the internet in the long term. She develops novel ciphers and researches the application of computer-aided mathematical proof methods for cryptography. She is particularly interested in how such methods can be implemented in industry swiftly. As a German translational research institution, Rosenpass e. V. provides an interface between academia and industry and is happy to directly support companies in their migration to technologies that offer security against attacks by quantum computers.
