At the Geekend at SegVault at the end of September the mate-fuled idea was born to create a drivable mate crate and finish it by the time Congress rolls around. The goal was to build most of the power electronics completely from scratch, and was at least in part acheived. We had to use some off-the-shelve electronics in the end, but try to make it up by making it shine (a few hundred smaller LEDs and a few high power ones). At least the LED strips will be sooner or later controllable over the network (and properly secured off from the drive electronics) so you can have fun with the shiniest mate crate at congress.
