Testing NFC devices and protocols for security problems used to involve somewhat expensive hardware. But why would that be so, if most of us are running around with a perfectly fine NFC reader and card emulator in our pocket? Most Android devices these days have NFC capabilities, so why not use them as cheap readers and emulators? That was what we, a group of four students from the TU Darmstadt, Germany, thought to ourselves when we started the NFCGate-Project.
As you can probably imagine, it wasn't quite as easy, but in the end, we ended up with an Android app that did exactly that. And we're giving it to you to play with.
