Description Created in 2008, the hackerspaces.org website was a vital part of the growth of the hackerspace movement.

Hackerspaces.org is still a great resource for people wanting to start or run a hackerspace anywhere in the world.

As a wiki, it allows anyone, anywhere in the world, to add their hackerspace. It attracts new people and visitors. It is what comes up when you search for a hackerspace (or makerspace or fablab, etc) on your favorite search engines. It provides many tools and resources for starting and running a hackerspace. Along with its hackerspaces.org email lists, it provides easy networking for existing hackerspaces to help each other, as well as help people who want to start hackerspaces.

It's a great resource! But what can we do to update it, and keep it relevant for the years to come? Let's get together and brainstorm and discuss how to do this.

Started in 2008, at ToorCon, by Astera, Enki, Mitch, Bre, and others, hackerspaces.org become the go-to place for people wanting to start and run hackerspaces. We made it a wiki, with crowd-sourced content, providing a way for all hackerspaces, existing and forming, to add themselves, where it would automatically map each space. We also created email lists for people to ask each other questions, and provide for a means for all hackerspaces to help each other, as well as help others wanting to start hackerspaces.

The world can still use this valuable functionality. Please come and discuss and brainstorm how to re-vitalize hackerspaces.org to continue to be a great resource for helping the hackerspace movement for many years to come.
