Event

I am a botanist and work as a habitat mapper. I will present my experience and technical approach to paperless or fully digital data collection in the field. I welcome questions and would like to exchange ideas and insights into other approaches to digital data collection. In the hands-on part, I will demonstrate how to create a GIS project using QGIS on Linux and how to use it with the QField app on an Android tablet to record habitat geometries or species locations on aerial photographs (and other map data). The generated data will be transferred from Android back to the PC and then processed in the GIS project. In this QGIS/QField workshop, we will look at:

  • how to set up a QGIS project,
  • how data transfer between PC and smartphone works,
  • how QField functions. If anyone is interested, we can also discuss habitat mapping and its future applications.
