What's it about
This sessions will go through the basic building-blocks of a basic rails application. It's directed towards people with basic knowledge about webdevelopment(http,html,css,js) and a dynamic, object oriented programming language(prefarble ruby or something similar) that want to learn more about the basic principles of Ruby on Rails.
Together we will build a simple example application that will help you getting started in the rails terrain. I try to cover the most important things, but as the title says, it's really just a basic hello-world. Its classified as a hands-on/workshop so please bring your own computer.
Preparations
During the session we will work with Rails 4 so make sure you meet the following prerequisites:
- having a working computer running a recent linux distribution
- at least ruby 1.9.3 installed
- the possibility to install and use gems (preferable through rbenv(https://github.com/sstephenson/rbenv#installation)
)
- sqlite3
Because i'm having no expirience in using other operating systems(windows, osx) i can't support them in this session.
If you are having trouble with some of those prerequisites, there will be some time where we can try to fix your issues.
Location
This session will take place at the example assembly which is located next to hackerspace amsterdam, near the lockpickers. Check out the official map.
