AYAB (all yarns are beautiful) is a Brother KH-910 knitting machine where the main controlling unit was replaced with a custom Arduino control unit to be able to knit two-coloured pictures with up to 200 px width. Data is fed to the machine using a very simple API over the serial communication of the Arduino. The hack was intended to be compatible to most of the KH-9xx knitting machines, so feel free to participate, use and improve AYAB. We would be glad to show you how to use AYAB with your own machine.
An AYAB-powered knitting machine can produce a vast range of useful and not so useful things: Knitted QR codes, headbands, "Mate-Cosy"s, badges, ...
If you want, you can bring your own design and we will knit it together with you - an image file with 1 bit color depth and a width of max. 200 px (preferably 40-60 px for better handling and faster knitting) will be sufficient!
Note: On December 29th, 05:00 pm, there will be a talk about AYAB in the Hardware Hacking Area
