Open Democracy is a digital democracy platform focused on research-oriented AI applications. We do not subscribe to the illusion that technologies like LLMs can solve every problem. Rather, we observe how technological progress is increasingly instrumentalized by technocratic, autocratic, and totalitarian actors for purposes that serve their agendas rather than human well-being. We see ourselves as a decisive democratic corrective and a bulwark against this development. Our mission is to foster social cohesion, combat political apathy, and strengthen democratic processes and principles on a global scale.

Over the past year, we have worked on projects like Electomate to radically rethink outdated Voting Advice Application (VAA) concepts and make them accessible to a global audience. Through Diplomatica, we are also empowering citizens with enhanced communication skills and emotional intelligence to build bridges across the polarized divides of 21st-century discourse. Furthermore, we are developing an LLM benchmark to make political fairness in AI models quantifiable for the first time. In the coming year, we will launch additional initiatives, including transparency dashboards for political donations and lobbying, automated party platform analyses, and deliberative formats based on Polis.

We are currently seeking dedicated individuals interested in collaborating on these projects or contributing their ideas. To scale our impact and expand our research, we are also actively seeking partnerships and funding from institutions or foundations dedicated to the intersection of technology and the public good.
