Hakkaa Board - SMD soldering & embedded rust for beginners
The Hakkaa board is the perfect starter project for SMD soldering, even if you've never soldered before. Small and surprisingly simple. Once you've soldered your first components, you'll quickly realise that SMD soldering is not rocket science.
The board brings Persistence of Vision (POV) to life: fast LED sequences create floating text and patterns in the air. Everything is controlled by a RISC-V microcontroller whose firmware is written in Embedded Rust. Rust makes programming super intuitive. Anyone who has ever written Arduino code will love it. Text, symbols and animations can be easily customised without having to struggle through complicated toolchains.
LEDs, microcontrollers, Rust code... all on one board that is fun to solder, code and experiment with.
We recommend:
- For working on firmware
- Your laptop setup with the development tooling so that you can spend more time on prorgamming than on installing
- Your laptop fully charged
- To visit one of our introductions
- For intermediate and advanced partitipants our Introduction on day 1 or day 3
- For beginners the Rust programming language: An absolute beginner workshop on day 2 and our introduction on day 3
- Three AAA cells or even better rechargeable batteries if you want to play around with the built hard- and firmware without tethering to a USB port
