Across Germany, bank accounts of leftist structures and individuals are currently being terminated. This particularly affects accounts at GLS Bank. The reasons for these terminations are not disclosed by the banks, but considering that the criminalization of antifascism is increasingly advancing and that antifascists from Germany are classified as terrorists by the USA, a political motivation seems likely. This development is concerning and underscores the urgency of countering the ongoing rightward shift.
How do we deal with debanking? How can we resist? How can we support those affected? Are there alternative payment systems that can be used for fundraising in such cases? How can we find out the reasons for the terminations if the banks do not want to disclose them?
This self-organized session is intended to serve as a space for networking and exchanging ideas. The event should be as participatory as possible and focus on developing common strategies.
