Smoking Outside
So, we're kindly bid to smoke outside, and... to surprise to everybody, we (the smokers), do. The air is as clean as outside (*cough, cough*).
But what is this? Why aren't we allowed to use the entrance at the side of the building anymore, as we were yesterday? The other (main) entrance is less checked, and much more dirty, and the smokers have to run around the building every five minutes. What good does that do?
Your Opinions:
I'd like to say that an inside smoking area IS needed. Maybe we could call HC2 a 'inside smoking area' and all the others not? buZz
Good PE for the smokers. It's also an incentive to stop smoking or smoke less because it's adding something you don't want to do :P
I think it's okay to allow smoking in a certain room or area. I do not smoke myself but standing outside and running around the building at these temperatures isn't really nice. --Roogy 18:08, 28 December 2005 (CET)
I am personally not smoking, and I am very pleased about the success of the so called "social experiment" (At this point, a big "Thank you" to every smoker out there ;)). But I accord that this situation can't be the right way. I'd too suggest a smoking area inside the BCC (But not in some passway. Maybe some room in the basement or so) --pberndt 18:47, 28 December 2005 (CET)
I do smoke and enjoy smoking a good joint with my friends too, so the new non-smoking policy (even though only enforced by "conviction" work of the angels) is quite a blow. I can understand that people were molested by the amounts of smoke during previous conferences, but I feel the congress is becoming more and more mainstream and stiff really. The no-sleeping-inside-the-building is another example of this trend, of course the building looks cleaner and neater, but I feel that these measures destroy the "hacking spirit" of the whole event really... --[g] 19:53, 28.12.2005
Sorry, do we have to discuss smoking in the HC too? The ventilation sucks and people are smoking here (shit, tabacco etc) :-( -- cosmo 23:35, 28.12.2005
παντα ρει -- alles wird gut. -- sok 10:05, 29.12.2005
I am a non smoker. last year was bad. this year has been a huge improvement. I agree that smokers should not have to run around half of the building outside. My guess is that this was done to avoid having to check tags at two entrances, or the confusion that this causes for the tag checkers?? i would suggest reserving space in the building for smoking or fencing off the exit area outside as a smoking only section and turning the entrace area into an entrance/exit, it being the only exit. -- user:cyphunk 3:45, 29.12.2005
