Do I have to pay less/no entrance fee at the congress?

No, everyone (including angels) has to pay the entrance fee.

Do I receive a payback for my work?

Angels actively working get a free congress T-shirt and free catering. Moreover, they can use the gym for sleeping and showers without fee.

How long do I have to work as an angel?

This question isn't easy to answer because it depends on different things, like the job an angel has decided to do, or the overall number of angels present. Working hours also vary with individual motivation. As a rule of thumb, four hours a day may be considered normal.

From when will angels be needed, and up to what time?

The setup of the Congress starts Dec 23th at 8 o'clock and we need angles to help with the setup on Dec 23th, 24th and 25th. The entrance will be officially opened on Dec 26th at noon, i.e. we will need additional angels for check-in and security from that time on. We also need angels to coordinate the walking out of the visitors and dismantle the equipment on Dec 30th. It's planned to be finished around midnight that day.

I'm only XX years old. Can I help?

You are old enough to come to the congress? Then you are old enough to help.

I read that I have to register if I want to take my computer with me. Is that the same for angels?

Based on the last years' experience we have reserved a space for Angels in the Hackcenter. You don't have to register your computer except you want to join your friends or another project located somewhere else in the Hackcenter. Then register with them.

Will there be an IRC channel for the angels this year?

Yes, look for #chaos-angel on IRC-Net.

How to behave towards the visitors?

In general, all individuals at the congress behave POLITELY and FRIENDLY towards each other, even when we are all stressed out. If you feel that you are in a situation that you can't get on with, call another angel to help, or an arch angel, BEFORE you get stressed out yourself :-)

At what time will the angel briefings take place?

This has yet to be decided. There's a vague planning: On Dec 26th, at 11 am (prior to the opening of the check-in), on Dec 26th in the evening (7 - 8 pm), on Dec 27th and 28th around noon and around 8 pm, and perhaps on the 27th in the morning (9 am).

The most important briefing is the one on Dec 26th at 11 am.

What else do I have to consider?

You shouldn't be too tired or hungry when you start your duty. A certain fitness won't do any damage.

I want to be an Angel but i will be there on 26th Dec in the evening, is it a Problem not to be at the "Most important briefing"?

No, just join us when you arrive. Ask at the "Infotresen" (info-point) where to locally sign up for angels.

I have a question but there is no answer to it in the FAQ. Who should I turn to?

Further questions or tips:

If you have special questions about being an angel, please ask the arch angels.

Who are the arch angles?

What to do where?

There are alot of things to do, a rough outline can be found at https://events.ccc.de/congress/2005/engel.en.html. We do not assign angels in advance to positions, instead use the Angel System at https://events.ccc.de/congress/2005/engel to sign up for shifts you want to do. You can "book" shifts one week in advance, and probably quite some time before.

I want to attend certain workshops. Can I choose the hours at which I will have to work myself?

Yes, you can select your shifts in Himmelsverwaltung.
