Model Collapse

Art

Artist: Telemagic

Genre: Interactive Installation

Model Collapse Is an immersive exhibition that depicts the landscape from which AI emerges, revealing its self-consuming origins in extraction of the earth’s resources and data through relics, artifacts and stories from the past. Type in a query at the main station, and a local language model determines your location within the landscape. your query dynamically breathes life into this generative digital biome and sets the scene of the exhibition. The location and linked cyber sculpture that resonates with your query will awaken in response, sharing their knowledge, fighting dominant imaginaries and narratives entangled within the origins of AI touching upon: mystification, gender bias, non-western algorithmic practices and the ecological footprint.

Artist Bio: The members of art-meets-tech collective Telemagic are bound by a drive to use contemporary technology for a deeper, richer human experience. Cyanne van den Houten, Ymer Marinus and Roos Groothuizen aim to demystify invisibility corporate technology. They use tinkering and hacking as methods of reclaiming. Repurposing technologies to uncover underlying power structures. Telemagic sees technologies as inherently politicized tools that reflect broader societal forces, but also as opportunities for resistance. By taking things apart, reassembling them, or chaining them together in unexpected ways, they can be made to reveal deeper truths. And hopefully move us to a more empowered technological future
