chaosscanner
„chaosscanner“ makes the invisible currents of our digital environment visible and tangible. The installation translates streams of data into motion: A chaotic pendulum responds to surrounding Wi-Fi-signals, transforming abstract data into organic movement. The installation converts Wi-Fi-signals emitted from smartphones, routers and other devices in the space around it into control values for a stepper motor, which is mounted onto the main axis of the pendulum. Linear lasers intersect the space, projecting thin beams onto the walls and infrastructure around the installation as metaphors for the ongoing analysis and sensing of the environment. By linking digital data with physical dynamics, „chaosscanner“ reveals how technological infrastructures continuously interact with their surroundings.
