Volunteers
Like each chaotic event the 26C3 will not be possible without the help of many volunteers. You can be one of them. Lots of volunteer work needs to be done before, during and after the event. Volunteering is actually a lot of fun. You will work with other people who share your interests, learn a whole lot in the process and really take part in the event.
Even though being a volunteer is not financially rewarded (does that mean that one has to pay the full entrance fee even if helping as a volunteer? YES! You do not even get a rebate.), we need volunteers to make the congress a success. As a volunteer, you will be doing important stuff, meet many interesting people and generally have a great time. Furthermore, we will provide a volunteers-only area with a small Hackcenter and some kind of never-ending breakfast. And of course you'll get a free volunteers conference shirt.

Becoming a Volunteer
If you're interested in helping out you can
- register at https://engelsystem.de/
- just go to the angel area and just say you want to help. There will be people who show you how.
- have a look at the pages of the volunteer teams and see if you want to help in one of them and if they need more help. Just contact the coordinator to find out how you can work best in that team.
Types of Volunteers
Conference
Conference angels make sure that all events start and end on time. They also ensure that the rooms don't become too crowded when more people want to listen to a talk than places are available.
Heralds
We need heralds with strong English skills and who feel comfortable speaking in front of a huge crowd, as all sessions will be properly announced. A herald is responsible for a lecture hall during a talk. As part of this, the herald ensures that the speaker(s) are there on time (if necessary, escort), introduce himself or herself to the speaker(s) and familiarize a bit with the speaker background and session content. They also ensure projection is set up. When everything is ready, the herald gets on the stage, introduces speaker(s) and talk, then hands over to the speaker(s). Then they stick around and try to follow the session to detect and fix problems before they arise. There is also a more detailed Heralds page available.
Documentation
All events will be archived and streamed. We need people who ensure our cameras (video angels) and microphones (audio angels) are up and running. In addition the angels help handing out microphones in the lecture rooms for questions to the panel.
Entrance
This is where tickets are sold, badges are fixed/checked and exits are secured. The entrance team includes cash desk angels and entrance angels (former guardian and crimp angels). For more information check out the entrance page. We will need a considerable number of reliable volunteers here.

Netangels
Netangels help the NOC to build the network and to provide support and service to the participants. Basic knowledge of computer networks should be available.
CERT
The angels of the CERT (Chaos Emergency Response Team) are the first responders and provide first aid in case of a medical emergency. We are looking after the fire protection in this building also.
Catering
Chaos angels and the crew are self-catered. So we need some angels that take care of that. For in fo ask around in the Engelraum. There are night and dat shifts. 091225 20:18 Okkie
Cloakroom
With your help, we try to operate the Cloakroom 24/7 during the congress. If you're interested in helping out at the cloakroom, just sign up for a shift in the shift system and arrive in time, so everything can be explained to you.
If there are any questions or problems regarding the cloakroom, feel free to contact Knuff!
Meetings
There will be daily meetings at 10:00 in the morning and 18:00 in the afternoon.
Shift System
The Angel System will be used to centrally coordinate shifts and Chaos Angels. If you want to register as an angel, you need to create an account for yourself. You can find the Shift System at https://engel.congress.ccc.de and https://engelsystem.de.
To find available shifts, click "available shifts" on the left hand side, then select the area in which you would like to help out, and then use the date links above the shift table to jump to the individual days. Note the "available shifts" page also contains a "show everything at once" link which shows all areas for a given day. Under "my shifts" you can also cancel your shifts up to 3h before they start.
Please chose your shift there and be around 10 minutes before there, especially for audio and video angels.
Arch Angels
Arch Angels are the people who guide and take care of the Chaos Angels, technically they are part of the Chaos Angels. Most of them are coordinating a team or "mainly responsible" for specific tasks, but of course you can contact any of them in case of any questions.
