Data Mining Workshop

Here's a little-known aspect of data mining: It's fun! Don't think so? Well, then come join us and we'll convince you!

No matter whether you think data mining is good or evil, it offers very powerful tools for learning interesting things from data. You've probably heard of the evil purposes it's used for, like your bank scoring your trustworthiness. But you can also use it for, say, predicting iPod prices on eBay to get a cheap deal or find movies or recipes that match your taste.

In this workshop we will briefly introduce data mining and then dive into classification (one of the subareas of data mining). We will cover data visualization, preprocessing, and several classification algorithms. During the hands-on sessions we will use Weka.

Please come with Java and Weka already installed! Make sure to get the development version of Weka (OSX, Linux, BSD, Solaris, Windows)! There will not be time to do this during the workshop!
