Congress Overview
Here you find a simple overview of the areas, activities and projects at 21C3. More information and more projects will find its way in our Public Wiki. There you can post information on your project as well.
Conference
The conference consist of lectures, discussions and workshops in four tracks. The conference is structured in five main topic categories: Hacking, Science, Community, Society and Culture.
The Congress Schedule offers a list of all planned lectures and the speakers, as well as day-by-day timetable.
Hacking
The topic category "Hacking" features lectures and workshops on current technological development and research areas regarding software, networking and hardware. International speakers provide insight into their activites and knowledge and invite you to dive into the current state of affairs.
Science
Speakers of the scientific sector talk deliver background information on the current state of research, basic facts of nature science and mathematics that might be valuable for developing software and hardware and understanding the world.
Community
The congress is not only meeting point of the curious but also provides space for meetings of activist groups and developer conferences especially in the area of open source software and freedom of information.
The organization team tries to provide rooms for such meetings at the Congress and to include talks on your activities in the conference. Get in contact with us if you think of doing a developer conference or similar ideas.
Society
Topics affecting society in general and free software development in particular are part of the Society track as well as information about the state of legislation in areas like licensing, software patents, video surveillance and other Hot political discussions.
Culture
Culture tries to intensify the view from the outside and present the unknown or put well-known things in a different light. Culture is your room for extensions.
Hackcenter
The Hackcenter is a big area at the Congress where you can be present with your own hardware. We provide the infrastructure for networking and to connect to the Internet. We want to stress the point that the Hackcenter is more of an experimental laboratory bot is not the place for LAN parties.
If you want to present your project at the Hackcenter - alone or with your group - you have to apply for space first as the available room is limited, the demand is high and do a selection among the applicants. Plese use the Hackcenter registtration page to provide information on you and your project. Use the 21C3 Wiki to find other groups that might do similar things to join forces.
Art & Beauty
"You can create art and beauty with a computer". This is the motto of Art & Beauty, a special area in the heart of the Congress. Art & Beauty attracts the artistic and creative scene. Art & Beauty is workshop, installation and happening at the same time - at a single place.
The Haecksen
The 'Haecksen' are a group of women and girls in the CCC (and associated groups). As in the years before, they run a room on their own, in which the program concentrates on workshops and hands-on-experience. This year we plan to emphasise rather exotic programming languages.
Apart from professional issues the Haecksen-Room is a cozy place amidst the congress, giving opportunity to have a tea and chit-chat. As a nationwide group they will definitely take the chance for a meeting. We would like to welcome all women interested :)

Phone Operation Center
The Phone Operation Center will be present at the congress this year again with a mobile DECT system and phone infrastucture. The entire building and parts of the Alexanderplatz will be covered with DECT. You can bring your own DECT phone and register it at the congress. So you will be able to call other congress participants for free.
To secure your personal extension in advance please register and then enter your extensions in the phonebook. It will be possible to receive calls from outside via a fixed number + extension, too.
Lockpicking
In it's eighth continuous year the German Lockpicking Championships will be held at the Congress. The Championships are prepared and organized by the Sportsfreunde der Sperrtechnik e.V.. On the event pages you will find all necessary information how to participate in the Championships.
At the last day, Lockpicking workshops are being offered for the curious. If you want to improve your skills in a non-digital way this might be for you.
