A simple talk on state of Digital Payments in India. Will cover how the ecosystem has evolved, what's next and why FinTech is so big in India.
(It didn't happen on the 23rd due to scheduling conflicts, but the extra day has gotten us more content and questions.)
Talk will cover:
1. History of Payment systems in India
2. The role of RBI (India's central bank) and regulations
3. Rise of Digital Wallets
4. NPCI's creation and rise (national Payments Corporation of India)
5. UPI and Demonitization
6. Innovation and what's next.
India's fintech sector has been on a gradual rise over the last decade, and has made some great strides as a result of innovation in the private sector as well as guiding regulation from the central bank. Despite several missteps (covered in the talk), we'll see how startups, companies and banks have been hacking around regulations to innovate.
