DeforaOS is an Operating System project, under development in three major parts:

• self-hosting environment: libc, base system (not necessarily UNIX/POSIX but with compatibility layer), assembly and compilation framework, possibly a kernel in the future
• distributed framework: everything is a message, deep system integration, applications networked natively
• user environment: native desktop environment from a single code base for embedded systems alike

DeforaOS is portable, running on (and being developed) primarily on NetBSD and Linux, while also supporting FreeBSD, OpenBSD, MacOS X and Windows (MinGW) to some extent.
