Talk:Streams

Last years team did a great job. But I think it might be good if we would have some additional diversity here. For example we could encourage people to take VCRs or DVD-recorders with them and connect them to the RF distribution system used for the TVs. Perhaps some people could try to directly record the talks to low-framerate/high resolution files which could be distributed efficiently till the official videos are there. --Casandro 16:14, 16 July 2006 (CEST)

--xult 07:20, 27 December 2006 (CET)

I'm sick and will have to stay at home, so I really hope the streams are online soon. I'm counting on you guys! --MadDave 12:08, 27 December 2006 (CET)

Those streams make me sick, is this a kiddie congress? No one who knows only a really little bit about computers would choose wmv as streaming codec. Why the fucking bullshit do you use proprietary formats for streaming a hacker congress? No stream couldn't be worse than a wmv one!!!!!!! --Friday 14:51, 27 December 2006 (CET)

Do you mean that you want to volunteer to fix the hardware, bandwidth and the people so it could be streamed in some other format?
BTW: WMV is only a container format, you can embed a LOT of stuff in it. Are you complaining about the container format or about the WM8/WM9/WM10 encoding?

Missing unofficial recordings

Does anyone have Tor and China? Or any of the other vidz who are missing from all the mirrors? Also, if this and/or other videos are added to one/more mirrors, please add "updated" or "new vidz" or something next to the mirror(s)? --X1and0 03:02, 2 January 2007 (CET)

defective capacitor

Could you please tell the BCC staff about the defective capacitor in one of their distribution amplifiers? It's the reason why there are visible horizontal bands in the video. Thank you. --Casandro 18:32, 27 December 2006 (CET)

hi there, could someone please mention the appropiate needed software/player (links where to download the stuff) plus the needed bandwidth (ie: dsl/isdn/analog) next to the offerd streams? thanx sabine

Thanks

Despite of the obvious problems I'd like to thank the streaming teams for their work. It works really far so far. --Casandro 19:44, 27 December 2006 (CET)

  • dito! --Validom 21:15, 27 December 2006 (CET)
  • Thank you all for the terrific work! --MadDave 13:11, 28 December 2006 (CET)
  • Yeah, thank you very much for making this possible, theora and vorbis streams are amazing! I just hope it will take less time to release the recorded stuff after the congress. Thank you very much! --Hoshpak 17:37, 28 December 2006 (CET)

saved streams for download?

is there a place where to download the saved streams later on? -- Validom 21:16, 27 December 2006 (CET)

Audio-Streams

Vielen Dank!

Audio problem in Saal 3

I just checked all the stream URLs mentioned here and further, and the only one I found working is http://89.22.13.222:8000/saal3.ogg which gives me a fabulous view of the speaker but the sound is not working. All the other links aren't in operation apparently.. Maybe I need to switch to Mikerawsoft? Or do I need to install a driver for rtsp: into my fox? Well then, maybe I just do some real work rather than watch the congress..  ;)

--lynX 12:12, 29 December 2006 (CET)

... now all streams are up and working perfectly, only i have to do other stuff haha ... --lynX 17:19, 29 December 2006 (CET)

OGG streams auf stream.eof.name down?

Die OGG streams sind nicht erreichbar, kein DNS erreichbar?

$ time host stream.eof.name
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

downloading experience

The .WMV downloads appear as good quality using Flip4Mac via Quicktime 7.1.3 player on OS X 10.4.7.

WinXPSP2: good quality with WMP10.

Vista: The quality was poor on VLC player (video is dark) on Vista. Using WMP11 or MPC on Vista, with my experimentation so far, the video does not appear, so could be a codec/Vista problem.

Good work people! --Nigwil 19:57, 31 December 2006 (CET)

Console Hacking 2006

Hi, I've been looking for the presentation titled 'Console Hacking 2006' by Felix Domke (https://events.ccc.de/congress/2006/Fahrplan/events/1606.en.html) but have not found it yet. It was presented at day 2, room 1 so the suffix should be '-t2s1'. Does anyony know if the video archive is 'done' or if more videos are coming up later? /Digi 16:19, 1 January 2007 (CET)

License

First, thanks for making recordings available with free codecs (Ogg Vorbis+Theora); it's fantastic to see more use of this, particularly among those who appreciate FLOSS.

What is the license of the recordings, regardless of the format?

Whatever the license is, I hope it will allow for at least verbatim copying and distribution (even commercially) in any medium without royalty. I'd also like to make audio-only derivatives by extracting the Vorbis data from the Ogg Vorbis+Theora files so I can play them in my car and share only the audio. If the license allowed this, I'd appreciate it. J.B. Nicholson-Owens

Answer: I've found Call_for_Participation#Publication which says these recordings are under Creative Commons "Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Germany" (BY-NC-ND) [[1]] so I'll leave it to someone else to add something to the streams page to make this more clear and I'll revisit the issue if nobody else does. I'm not clear if the "unofficial" videos are licensed this way or not. J.B. Nicholson-Owens

Simultanious audio from two different lectures in one recording

Several recordings have the audio of another talk at the same time in another Saal in the background. This is very disturbing when trying to concentrate on the talk. Listen to 23C3-1540-de-learn_to_be_honest.m4v for an example. -- Matsch 12:54, 13 January 2007 (CET)

You are right. Unfortunately there was (probably) crosstalk from the audio cable of another hall on some of the wires. :( --THamTHon 10:43, 19 January 2007 (CET)

Again:Missing Stream

Hi there,

I don't know whether anyone of the Stream-Crew, which is doing a great job so far, is following this discussion, but if so could you post a schedule when to expect the missing Streams. I am waiting for the presentation of the Sputnik project. Thx.

Regards, Kris

Can't watch

Hey, I don't have an ipod, what do I use to watch the official recordings, in particular 23C3-1600-en-biometrics.m4v I only get a black screen with VLC.

Sound problems

Hi, I think the complete audio for 23C3-1578-de-hacking_fingerprint_recognition_systems.m4v is "broken". On the complete file there is a tone that make it impossible to hear or even understand the speaker (but you can hear, that he is talking). Some other talks - like the Big Brother Award one - is messed up with syncing. Am I the only one with this kind of problems? Are you going to fix it? --Swoon 21:22, 31 March 2007 (CEST)
