This project is completely volunteer based. As mentioned on the main page the deal is that we got a budget for build up of the food hacking base, for ingredients (2000 EU) and equipment (up to 1000 EU). In exchange we will prepare food and beverages for Hackers on the Plan and their Neighbor Village where is the project located.

I'm proposing a shift system, where people would cover four six hours shifts if they feel for it. One person would be in charge as "shift leader", several others 1-4 working on different food projects and keeping the base running doing what ever is necessary (yes dishes too). Around these people could be another few volunteers joining just for few hours and workshops which are run simultaneously.

Volunteers working for more than 3 hours will get a free access to the buffet for that day. Please note that anyone who wants to eat with us and is not member of the village can try to volunteer and barter his/her work for food which is served served 24/7. We will be catering for around 50-60 people max.

Shifts description

  • Morning 6 - 12:00

Morning shift is really important because it is the start up of the day. The base leader has to check out the stock and make sure that we have the "core" ingredients and equipment ready for the day. The breakfast menu will be prepared and also first dishes for the lunch. The food prep like cutting onions, soaking grains etc. should be done at this time. The shopping in the local market will be done probably during this shift + afternoon one. Me (Frantisek) will be most probably leading most of the morning shifts if it is OK with the others. This shift is going to be rather busy.

  • Afternoon 12:00 - 18:00

Well this one is going to be about putting more dishes on the buffet and keeping things running, it may get quite busy I guess. Another round of shopping will probably happen here and of course again preparation of dishes for subsequent evening shift.

  • Evening 18:00 - 24:00

Based on my experience from CCC this shift may be even more busy than afternoon one, especially between 19:00 - 23:00 or so. The food should be restocked but with the consideration that due to high temperatures as much as possible should be eaten before the night shift which is going to be probably quite slow. Techniques like simmering, inoculation with probiotic cultures and of course packing and cooling the food will be done. The kitchen should be made clean and ready for the night crew because there will be probably not so many of them so they should get help to start sorted.

  • Night 00:00 - 6:00

This one should be quite nice jolly. Few dishes out, keeping an eye on too much "socially tired hacker compaƱeros" and maybe doing some handy tasks like sharpening the knives (I may get an expert for that one, we will see :-)), soaking the grains, starting to spit roast pigs etc.
