Living in a police state
When people discuss government measures taken to combat the “war on terror” in the wake of 9/11, they often use terms such as totalitarian regimes, police state, and surveillance society. But what exactly are we dealing with?
What are the criteria that define a police state, what constitutes an electronic surveillance society, and have our countries yet reached this point? By most counts, Britain is pretty much there, and other European countries are following suit. The big question is: what can we do about it?
