Dear villages,

Since the third and last ticket round ended last Saturday, you should now have a good picture of how many people your village will involve. Also, you should have developed some ideas around now on what you want to do and what you need to bring.

Don’t miss the registration deadline

If you haven’t registered your village yet, it’s high time: Registration closes this Friday, 30 June 2023 at 23:42 CEST (UTC+0200). Don’t wait until midnight.

The original Call for Villages is here:
https://events.ccc.de/2023/05/30/camp23-call-for-villages/

Register your villages here:
https://events.ccc.de/camp/2023/hub/backoffice/

Update your village registration

This is the perfect moment to give some love to your village registration. Please update your registration data and tell us what you want to to. Please fill in the “signup information” field as soon as possible. If you are using a pad or a wiki for the organisation of your village, we’d be happy to have that link. The more precisely the village crew knows what you intend to do, the better they can plan everything – which also benefits you.

Plan your presentation

Use this moment now to put content into the description fields “Öffentliche Beschreibung [de]” and “Description [en]”. This info will be available publicly on the event website later, giving you the opportunity to present yourself and to lure visitors into your village. Even if you’re not planning to attract visitors, these fields should be filled by day 0 at latest.

Order stuff in the shop

Camp takes place in the high season of outdoor events. Especially furniture and those ugly white standard tents have a long lead time for renting. Order these preferably no later than Friday, 7 July 2023. After that day, the chances that we can still get something for you will drop rapidly.

[NEW!] We’re pleased to announce there’s a new item in the shop: Cooling-as-a-service (CaaS), meaning shelf space in a shared refrigerated container, is now available for order. All details can be found in the village shop.

Questions? You can contact us at camp2023-villages@cccv.de or in the public Matrix channel #camp2023-villages:events.ccc.de.

Camp 2023 – Village-Shop

After successfully registering your village (see Call for Villages) and having it confirmed by the village team, you will get access to the village shop. Here you can order a variety of things that will hopefully make it easier for you to build your village. The voucher code for the shop can be found with your registration in the hub.

All orders will be checked and released in the order of their submission.

Articles will be added and updated continuously, please check back regularly.

Deposit

Some articles require a deposit. This will be payable in the shop and will be returned to you in cash after you’ve given back the items at the end of the event.

Kitchen foo

You can order gas cylinders (11 kg), dinner plates, soup plates, and also IBC (Intermediate Bulk Containers, 1000 liters) for waste water. We will charge a deposit for each item.

You can also buy gas directly at the event. Further, you can pick up or exchange pre-ordered gas cylinders at any time so you don’t have to store them in your village.

Furniture

You can get exhibition tables (for closed tents and solid floors), folding chairs and beer tent sets (one table, two benches).

For all furniture items we charge a collective deposit of 100 €. This will be added to your order and returned to you in cash when you return the items at the end of the event.

Tents and sun protection

We offer a variety of stretch tents, sun shades and tents. Please read the descriptions and check whether the item suits your requirements. Stretch tents have no floor and open sides, which makes them a perfect and breezy sun shade. For a smaller maker space with a lot of tech, installations with side panels and a solid floor might be more suitable.

Tent orders have to be coordinated with our suppliers. This is why all orders will be checked and then confirmed individually.

Please order tents and sun shades as soon as possible. Our camp takes place during peak camping season, so at some unknown point in time we will no longer be able to meet all requests.

Camp 2023 – Call for Villages

Camp 2023 is getting closer – villages, what’s your plan? Cool f00 that is sustainable and reusable? We can’t wait to find out how Chaos envisions a society of tomorrow.

Structures

Once again this year, we want an event that is safe for everyone. Please discuss your plans with the village coordinators early on, especially for large villages and elaborate structures. For example, a permit is required for canopies larger than 75 square metres or structures taller than 5 metres. Structures must be constructed in such a way that they are not a fire hazard. Let us know in your application if you have bigger plans.

Vehicles

Cars or similar vehicles generally do not belong in the villages. Exceptions are made for vehicles that are an integral part of the village, i.e. not just for sleeping. Examples would be a mobile hackspace in a bus, a water cannon with a protest background or a car whose CAN bus is being hacked. An open hardware project with active development on the camp is welcome (after confirmed registration), a cool DIY project alone is not enough.

No digging, no large earth nails

Like last time, no holes, pits or sub-basements are allowed. There are still various pipes and cables that are just below the surface and insufficiently documented. So please plan without long ground nails and pegs and do not sink them deeper than 25 cm into the ground.

Village Shop

Like last time, there will be a store for villages where you can order large tents, seating, gas, etc. centrally instead of all of you having to transport these things across the country or rent everything individually somewhere else. We are also working on having community coolers. As soon as we know more about this, we will let you know.

Kitchens, Water

Villages are allowed to run a kitchen for self-catering. (Possible add-on: we recommend that the main person in charge of the kitchen has a basic food safety certificate [“meatball diploma”]. Any initial training that may be required can also be done at camp, details to follow.)

For fire safety reasons, only electricity or gas may be used for cooking, no open fires.

If you need water for your kitchen, please let us know – but be prepared to use hand trucks and water containers.

Music and other noise

Music is great. But not always, and not at any volume. The permitted volume depends on the location. It’s best to let us know if you want your village (including any other noise) to be above lounge volume, or if you’d rather be in a quieter corner. If you are expecting a completely silent campsite though, you will likely be disappointed at the camp. It is still an open air event and not an idyllic nature vacation in a mountain hut.

In general: pay attention to your fellow human beings and take care of each other so we will all have a good time.

Registration

Please register your village as soon as possible at:
https://events.ccc.de/camp/2023/hub/backoffice/

We have put together a form for you there. The more precisely you can answer the questions, the easier it will be for us to plan and save you from having to ask further questions. If your registration is accepted, you will get access to the village shop for tents, tables, chairs etc..

Remember to update your data regularly after registration, especially if your village size changes.

The deadline for villages to register is Friday, 30 June 2023 at 23:42 CEST (UTC+0200).

Any questions?

You can reach us at camp2023-villages@cccv.de or in the public matrix channel #camp2023-villages:events.ccc.de.

Wir sind in der Natur, deal with it

Hello camp visitors,

there is general camp planning going on for several weeks so far. Now we need information in terms of your villages in order to do concrete campsite planning. If you want to create some big stuff we need to know. You can find the contact details below in this post.
For your orientation we gathered some facts that are clear so far:

water:
The watersystem we build up for the camp is limited in its capacity and unfortunately won’t be very high due to local supply limitation. This means that we need to watch our water consumption a little bit. From the overall capacity we need to supply all of the sanitary and gastronomic infrastructure, e.g. the showers, dish washing stations, drinking water supply, heavens kitchen and so on. That means we cannot manage to supply running water in individual villages. So please plan to get water from the closest water station and find a workaround with water tanks. It’s also planned to limit the showering time to several hours a day to reduce the amount of water consumption.
Please be thrifty with the water and for example take a dip in the nearest lake instead of having a massive water fight on the campsite.

electricity:
As for the 2015 camp we will bring generators for the electricity supply because we can´t get enough power from the Ziegeleipark. As usual for a generator powered grid interruptions are possible.
It’s the same as for the water: please be thrifty and leave hungry consumers (e.g. old fridges or likewise) at home.
If you want to use your own solar power infrastructure to supply your village or if you are bringing big power consumers (>2kW) you necessarily need to speak to our power team (camp2019@c3power.de). Due to necessary fire protection, environmental and noise issues, please leave own generators at home. Nobody likes stinking two-stroke engine generators.

tents and buildings:
Due to safety reasons on the campsite you need to involve the village team in the planning of your village. If you want to bring big tents or build up something special, you need the village team’s permission. Tents for example are limited to the size of 75 square meters and must not have a second floor. Please don’t bring materials that are easily inflammable to build up your village. Cars and similar vehicles can not be parked in the villages.
Don’t dig holes and pits. There are several undocumented cables and pipes in the Ziegeleipark which are suspected to lie low under ground. The ground is not fun to dig in either. Also please don’t bring big pegs and don’t drive your tent pegs deeper in the ground than 20cm.
Please answer the village registration (https://signup.c3assemblies.de/) and speak about your plans. You also get the possibility to order tables, chairs, big tents and wood via the village team. Only register your planned village if you already got a ticket for the camp!

fire and cooking:
There definitely won’t be the possibility to have open fires or campfires on the campsite and the whole area due to fire safety. The same goes for barbeque grills on the campsite. As in 2015 there will a defined area where barbeque grills can be used. If you want to use a gas cooker make absolutely sure that it is based on some non inflammable ground and that it stands solidly and is not likely to fall over. The operation of a major village kitchen is only possible after permission of the village team.
Please be aware that the fire safety rules need to be adjusted if there is a change in weather oder dryness and can become stricter.

vehicles:
If you want to bring your vehicle please take care of the ground, yourself and the people nearby. The campsite won’t have a continuously bright illumination and a black dressed person or a pothole can easily be overlooked in the later evening. Please leave your battery powered vehicles at the chargers after dusk and please leave vehicles running on any kind of fuel at home. The noise and exhaust for other camp visitors exceed the individual fun. Also if your vehicle is leaking fuel it will damage the environment around.

water protection and environmental protection:
The Ziegeleipark Mildenberg is based in a water protection area (Wasserschutzgebiet). Please make sure that your cars, campers, motorcycles etc. are not leaking fuel.
Please leave any kind of chemicals at home. The opportunity of producing a new circuit board versus the possibility of damaging the closest drinking water reservoir is definitely not worth it.

music and noise:
If you bring PAs please limit the volume in sense of your neighbors on the campsite and outside the Ziegeleipark. Background music is totally fine in your village but constant party volume in some parts of the campsite was a problem in 2015 that we don´t want to have again.
There will be a major party area that is designed to produce a low noise level to the outside.

be excellent to each other:
In 2015 we got major complaints from neighbors outside the Ziegeleipark about noise, trash thrown in private gardens and damage to private property. We assume that this won´t happen again. Be excellent to each other!

dont forget your towel:
Have in mind that we are outside in the actual nature in midsummer. Bring sun protection, bring sunscreen, a big hat, create yourself some shady space. Have in mind to drink enough and also have in mind that in case of rain it can become quite muddy.
Bring a chair including a backrest and don’t forget your towel!

questions?

The Chaos Communication Camp 2015 approaches with giant steps! Whelp, it’s high time for a round of basic information, so you can plan your journey accordingly.

The dates

If you’re part of a Village or as an individual, the earliest reasonable date of arrival will be August 8th. Before that, there won’t be any power, water or Mate supply and you’ll likely stand in the way.

Disassembly of the event will commence on the evening of August 17th. We need to clear the venue by August 20th.

We’re going to need lots of people for the teardown and cleanup. You can help out, more on that in the Wiki about volunteers at the Camp!

Even during Camp construction time there will be little to no cars allowed at the site of the event. A special procedure will be announced at the entrance and can change from one hour to the next. Please prepare to unload your vehicles at the main entrance and relocate them to the parking lot for the duration of the event. Parking in front of the main entrance will be limited, so better gang up!

Caravans and Campervans will get their own designated area right next to the venue. Officially it’s outside the main Camp area, so you can move your Campervan for a shopping tour.

Trucks, Caravans, and Campervans may enter the venue if they’re an integral piece of your Village’s set-up. Those vehicles will need to be in place by August 12th and won’t be able to leave until the event came to a close, so please plan accordingly.

If you or your Village rented a tent from our (already closed) tent rental service, we’ll likely have those set up on August 8th as well. Some tents might be set up some time later (after the weekend of 8/9 August), but still before August 13th.

Your Village will get its own staked out stretch of land! Build as compact as possible. Buffer overflows are usually bad, so please stay within that area to avoid reboots. You might also cooperate with similar villages for a joint space.

Tickets will be up for sale soon™, as well as more information on general infrastructure at the Camp 2015!

For your orientation and answering the most frequent questions, we created a nice Campguide.

Included in the Campguide is a map with all the facilities and the larger villages. In the center are the two lecture shelters “Kourou” and “Baikonur” and the “Hackcenter” north of it. In front of the Hackcenter shelter is the “motodrone” located, the area where you can fly your quadcopters or similar objects. Behind the Hackcenter next to the small forest you can find the “Trockendock”, an area with music, lights and bars. South and east of the lecture shelters is the main camping area with a lot of villages. In the West you can find the Workshop shelter “Mojave”, some snack bars and the C.E.R.T. (Chaos Emergency Response Team) for first aid. It’s also the area where it is more silent and best suited for families.

We chose names for the roads, so that you can easily describe your location. West-to-East roads carry names from space scientist, North-to-South roads are named after famous space travelers and in contradiction the diagonal roads carry names from fictional space travelers.

Villages which are not located on the map can choose a free place by their own.
