Browse, reminisce, anticipate: The design archive goes live!

Everybody remembers their first event shirt, proudly still worn in all its faded glory. From charming meetups with twenty people on rickety benches under disco lights in old factory lofts, to huge events with tens of thousands of kindred spirits: For almost thirty years, our event designs have provoked thought and played with ambiguity, have puzzled and delighted. A testament to almost thirty years of bursting community creativity, we now celebrate them with the first-ever CCC Design Archive.

With this archive, we aim to honour the work of the almost seventy designers and shine the spotlight on them. Collaborating with us obstinate hackers, nerds and professional curmudgeons was not (and still is not) always easy. But the results are more than worth it: The exchange with people from different spheres is part of the reason that our events are not staged under sad, cold neon lights. Instead, we’ve kicked off a vibrant and unique – if often copied – template for hacker events all around the world.

And now click and scroll down memory lane. Dig through your postcards, posters and wardrobes, and use the opportunity to pick your wardrobe for 39C3. Click your way after the makers of your favourite designs, discover the origins of design ideas, find easter eggs that have so far escaped your attention, and join in:

The archive is still incomplete, and not least because there are future events yet to come. Help us to correct and complete past events, or contribute new ones in the issues and merge requests on Codeberg.

38C3 is gonna look illegally awesome!

Soo, who wants to get a sneak preview of the colour and image splendour that the 38C3 is going to blow us all away with in December? The designer dream team of Euler Void and Robokid // Luis F. Masallera have really pulled a rabbit out of their hat and we’re now ready to hype you up with the result of their enthusiastic and skillful work over the last few months.

To help you dress your assemblies in matching outfits, colour-coordinate your lecture slides and shape your sewing and crochet projects according to the rules of this year’s design instruction, here is the first round of tools to help you.

The design guide describes all the visual ideas behind the elongating blob organisms against a backdrop of digital precision and shows how logos, colours, fonts, icons and all the other graphic elements of the 38C3 design should work together.

The design guide consists of a PDF with images and descriptions and a complete bundle with all the fonts you need, ready-made lookup tables (LUTs) to help tint your images according to the correct scheme, you will find web banners, logos with vectors and without … as well as a few freshly hatched elongating blobs. For those who want to go beyond making static content, there are Blender files allowing you to render your own animations to match the design.

Attention all web banner artists, flag printers, board designers and assembly decorators out there: the 37C3 design team has delivered and it’s turned out great! Browse through the design guide and breathe in the anticipation or try to figure out the rules of the design game yourself and let your notebooks, flashing lights and matte bottle holders shine in the official 37C3 design.

For 37C3, Robokid // Luis F. Masallera and Euler Void have thrown themselves into the fray and played and fiddled with the motto 37C3: Unlocked, giving us not only a beautiful logo and a visual space that invites you to play, but also a generator for your own images in the design of the event.

You can find the design guide here and the image generator here. If you need the font “Gabriella” by Argentinian designer Fernanda Cozzi for your own signs and documents, you can ask for it at our designer’s list. There’s also a fun set of pre-generated emojis and pictograms available.

And now over to you: Go, install the wallpaper, play and tinker and make our 37C3 colourful and beautiful.
