In what has become a cherished tradition, the 38C3 content teams want to take the pulse of our community and offer you a deal that’s really hard to refuse: You get an early look at what our teams think are the best talks and presentations that will make for a well-rounded 38C3 Fahrplan, and in return you allow us to identify clusters of talks that we should avoid scheduling at the same time.

All you have to do is 1) click on all the talks you want to see, 2) hit submit and 3) skip step three! We’ll take it from there and let the number crunchers generate a collision map that will magically make equally charged talks repel each other!

You can marvel at the miracle machine fuelled by your submissions in this time-lapse video:

 /media/fullnarp_35C3.mp4

As a bonus, this collision map will be used back at halfnarp to help you find other talks that the community has deemed related to the ones you found interesting. Later it will even feed the “related videos” algorithm at media.ccc.de.

So, what’s not to like? Head over to halfnarp right now and hit submit!

I remember doing the halfnarp!

The 37C3 content teams have been sorting, discussing, ranking, shuffling, haggling and hustling for more stage-hours and are proud to present you a preliminary look at the first 104 confirmed of around 125 accepted lectures and performances at this year’s Congress.

It’s been an exhausting process with 600 submissions in six tracks and a handful of invited presentations meaning that some tracks had to chose 1 lecture from 10 others not making it into the final Fahrplan. If you are among the ones getting a sad email, rest assured that you are in excellent company and encourage you to reach out to our teams managing the self organised sessions and workshops or invite yourself to one of the many Assemblies and share your knowledge there.

Still, we are really thrilled about the quality of this year’s submissions and want to allow everyone a first glimps on our Fahrplan in exchange for you helping us out with the precise schedule which is due to be planned next weekend: As seen in previous years and years, we also need your support for 37C3 telling us which lectures you want to attend. By mapping your anonymous list of lectures to these of your peers, we can create a conflict map as seen in the video below, that helps us reduce the amount of conflicts between multiple lectures you may want to attend.

 /media/fullnarp_35C3.mp4

So hop over to the halfnarp now and let the community magic do its work!

Camp 2023 – Fahrplan 0.9 release

After many hours of reviews and haggling over the proposed entries, the content teams are proud to present you version 0.9 of the Fahrplan.

Find the schedule on pretalx

We and our awesome speakers and artists present you about 150 Talks, over 60 workshops and almost 50 performance gigs on 10 stages and areas.

For the Chaos Communication Camp 2023, we took a new approach to create this programme, with stages being run by multiple villages.
We had to learn a lot while running this approach, so this first schedule comes pretty late. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused for our speakers.

We received more than 400 proposals overall. We want to thank everyone who submitted an entry. Feel encouraged to host a self-organised session if you did not get accepted. You awesome people submitted way more than we could accept. Deciding what we would have to reject was not easy.

Camp 2023 – Call for Culture!

The Call for Particpation has been extended not only in terms of the deadline, but also its scope. We want to inspire you to use the stages for more than just talks! Two new tracks have been added for this purpose: “performance” and “entertainment”. These can include practically anything that can happen on a stage beyond a regular talk (or DJ set).

Among the things we had in previous events were code readings or beautiful Fnords – there also were poetry slams or lyrical code. Games, contests or audio features have been staged regularly. Maybe you would enjoy reenacting your village organisational meetings as an audio drama, or one of your plenaries as theatre? It is not a requirement that you a cover a full time slot; we will surely find a space for a shorter performance, sketch or reading as well.

Read the original Call for Participation with all details about the process:
https://events.ccc.de/2023/05/09/camp23-call-for-participation/#camp2023-cfp-english

We are very keen to receive your creative ideas and submissions of an entertaining/artistic kind, and we would be very happy if you spread this call beyond our usual bubbles!

Please use the conference planning system for your submissions as usual, and help others with the form filling:
https://pretalx.c3voc.de/chaos-communication-camp-2023/cfp

Camp 2023 – Call for Participation extended

Dear people,

we have received requests – especially from international speakers – to extend the CfP until after the pre-sale rounds. Additionally, some potential submitters wanted to wait to see if they would get a ticket before doing so.

We have therefore decided to extend the Call for Participation. It’s possible that some stages no longer have openings in their schedules and cannot accept any more talks. In this case, submissions will be released to any other stages that have more capacity left.

It is one of those special years again – a Chaos Communication Camp is going to happen. We invite you to submit talks for this hacker event that only takes place every four years.

There will be five channel stages where talks will be held over five days at Ziegeleipark Mildenberg. The stages are managed by multiple groups, each with their own focus. We are looking forward to your submissions on topics around technology, hacking, InfoSec, decentralised networks, Free Software, sustainability, digital & human rights.

We welcome all content proposals and submissions. In particular we want to encourage FLINTA* (Female, Lesbian, Inter, Non-Binary, Trans, Agender) and Queer individuals, BIPOC and humans from the Global South to submit their talks, workshops or Lightning Talks.

These channels are keen to receive your submissions:

Milliways with the following topics: InfoSec and “hands-on” talks on offensive and defensive security. Other focal points on the Milliways stage include hacking, tinkering with or without software, firmware, computer architecture and algorithms, as well as presentations on social engineering.

Digitalcourage is curating a programme on (digital) politics and welcomes submissions for talks, workshops or artistic contributions. In a tent hosting about 50 people, there will be room for all kinds of topics dealing with a world worth living in the digital age.

Jugend hackt [youth is hacking] will be happy to receive your submission for ages 12 to 21. We welcome any proposals ranging from talks, workshops, to sports, games and other fun activities. Follow this link to the CfP of Jugend hackt.

Bits & Bäume [bits and trees] has a technical and socio-political focus, and is looking forward to talks and workshops on decentralised networks, free software, sustainability and social responsibility.

The Nerds from the OberRheinische Tiefebene [Upper Rhine Plain] and xHain (N:O:R:T:x) are looking forward to anything “normal”: fnords, whacky, unfinished, cute, fluffy, …

If you don’t want to submit a talk or workshop, but would like to present your musical talents at the event, we are looking forward to your submission.

You can choose between the track “live act” for a band or solo project and “DJ set” for DJ Sets.. In order for us to find your submissions, please choose ‘Performance’ as the submission type.

Dates und Deadlines

This Call for Proposals end on 9 June 2023. We will let you know one month later whether your talk was selected.

Notes on Submission

All proposals must be submitted through our Conference Planning tool (Pretalx).

You can find it here: https://pretalx.c3voc.de/chaos-communication-camp-2023/cfp

Content Notes

Please consider adding content notes to your submission. This can help your audience to be prepared especially for sensitive topics. We recommended that you read the information provided by the Inclusion Operation Center.

Feel free to indicate whether your talk is suitable for or even aimed at minors.

Formats

The following content formats can be submitted (“session type” in Pretalx):

Talks (45 minutes + 15 minutes for questions)

Short Talk (20 minutes + 10 minutes for questions)

Lightning Talks (5 minutes, no questions)

Live Workshop (60 Minutes)

Performance (60 Minutes)

Submissions for workshops without live streaming will be made possible in other ways.

Language

The Camp has an international audience. But of course many German speakers will be in attendance. A lot of content was presented in English in past events. If you struggle with presenting in English, we encourage you to consider if presenting in German would suit you better. C3Lingo will try their best to provide simultaneous translation between these two languages for many talks.

Please submit the meta information for your talk in the same language that you will use to give your talk. This helps reduce confusion.

Publication

Audio and video recordings will be published in multiple formats on media.ccc.de under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This license allows other media to commercially use this content for news reporting.

If you do not wish your talk to be recorded or livestreamed, please state so in your submission. For technological reasons it does not make sense to livestream but not record a talk, as livestreams can be recorded and published by the audience.

What we do not want

Submissions for this event should be entertaining and educational. The audience is much more interested in social and/or technical aspects of a topic than in a “product presentation”.

The Camp is a forum for civil society. It takes a critical stance on topics such as “security” policy, copyright, surveillance and intelligence agencies. We reserve the right to be less open towards submissions from active actors in these fields.

Entrance fee & travel expenses

The Camp is a non-commercial event. It is facilitated by the community and costs are to be distributed on a basis of solidarity between all participants. We therefore do not differentiate between attendees, speaker and angels. This means that speakers cannot be reimbursed for travel or other expenses.

A talk submission does not guarantee access to the Camp. Please make sure to buy a ticket as soon as the presale starts.

Should your circumstances make it impossible for you to afford the entrance fee, you can ask for a “friends” ticket.

If you are travelling from outside the European Union, please remember to arrange for a visa in time. Unfortunately we are not able to issue invitation letters. If you need to apply for a visa, please state this in your content submission. We will then strive to expedite your submission in the selection process.
