Preparations for 39C3 are already in full swing. You have already registered more than 5,600 extensions. We are very excited. We would like to take this opportunity to provide some information about telephony at 39C3 and have compiled the following details on all the technologies you can use to participate in the Congress telephone network. As last year, there will again be a phone helpdesk to assist you with any issues you may have with the various telephone networks. You will find it at the shorter table to the left of the long POC table.

Registering extensions

As every year, you can register your extension(s) in GURU3. We offer DECT, SIP, GSM, call groups, applications, announcements, and special extensions. Please make sure you register your extension in the correct event. You do not need to register for analog or ISDN extensions. Registration has been open since 18 November 2025. Reservations for extensions expire on 24 December. Unredeemed reservations will then be returned to the pool.

DECT

To connect to the telephone network via DECT, you can bring your cordless DECT telephone from home. You can check whether your device works with our system in our wiki: DECT Phone Compatibility List. The necessary steps for setting up your extension can be found in the instructions for registering DECT.

There will also be EPDDI (EVENTPHONE Decentralized DECT Infrastructure), which means: The EVENTPHONE network from the conference – wherever you want it. At the hotel, at home, in the hackerspace, or on the train. You decide. If you have RFP & Router, you can find the documentation for integration here.

SIP

You can also connect to the telephone network using a SIP telephone or a SIP softphone. The access data will be displayed in Guru3 after you have registered an extension. You can also find an overview of tested SIP clients in our wiki: SIP Compatibility List. You will also find General SIP Configuration Instructions there.

SIP extensions cannot make calls to the public telephone network, but they can receive calls.

GSM

Mobile communications (2G/GSM, 4G/LTE, 5G/NR) will also be available again at 39C3. A 3G network will not be offered. Telephony is only available on the 2G/GSM network. Please bring your CCC SIM cards and mobile phones with you. New SIM cards are available at the Phone Helpdesk.

eSIMs 🎉 will be available this year.

The following frequencies will be used to operate the event network:

2G: 1800 MHz, possibly additionally 850 MHz
4G: 1900 MHz (band 2/25 FDD), 2300 MHz (band 40 TDD)
5G: 3700 MHz (band n78 TDD)

Using the mobile network with iPhones is somewhat problematic due to technical challenges. CCC SIM cards of a certain generation are not compatible with the event network in iPhones. The affected SIM cards in iPhones must be updated or replaced. You can contact the phone helpdesk for assistance.

Dawn of ISDN

This year, there will once again be a real ISDN network with an EWSD. An EWSD is a digital (ISDN) exchange by Siemens for public telephone networks, which was in operation between 1980 and today. We have reduced it to a minimum, will set it up at the Congress, and connect it to the PoC network.

To create some excitement, the theatre group has made a short video:

Visitors will have the opportunity to connect to the EWSD via ISDN or analog. For ISDN, if you have an NTBA, please bring it with you. If you don’t have an NTBA, you can borrow one from us. There will be access multiplexers at various locations in the event area where you can connect your phones or other devices. You can find the exact locations in the c3nav maps.

Each of the ports on these multiplexers is already configured. The first two cards in each multiplexer (with two large plugs) provide analog connections. The other cards (with one large plug) provide ISDN connections.

No extension registration in Guru is necessary for an EWSD connection. A fixed extension is already configured for each extension. Additional features such as charge pulse can be configured on request. Please contact the Phone Helpdesk for assistance. More information.

Services in the Phone Network

The familiar services will be available on the telephone network again this year.

Not sure which network you are on? Dial 0310

You can also link your phone number to your account in the Event Hub. To do this, you must enter it in your profile and confirm it. Once your phone number is connected, you can take part in the RFP Challenge, for example, to earn a special badge for finding DECT antennas. To do this, dial 9737 with your DECT phone.

Here are the rules:

You have 5 minutes for your presentation. After that, your time is up, and you are welcome to continue philosophising with all interested creatures in your assembly, while helping out as an angle or hanging out in the lounge, but unfortunately no longer on stage :/
Theoretically, registration is open until 28/29 December. However, time slots are limited and will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis (The exception proves the rule).

So get typing! Get your slides ready and submit your Lightning Talk! Every idea is welcome. We look forward to hearing about your projects and stories. The Lightning Talks are for everyone: We have three blocks that are broadly open to any creative submission. All Creatures Welcome

“What brings us together is not what we already know, but what we still want to learn. This exchange of knowledge is only possible if we approach each other with an open mind and with an attitude of mutual respect and support. We want to create an environment characterised by tolerance, respect, curiosity, fun, openness to communicate, friendliness and consideration”, as stated by our principles. The Chaos Communication Congress aspires to be a space where all beings can find a place – as free as possible from harassment, boundary violations and discrimination, and to be needs-oriented and with as few barriers as possible. To get closer to this goal, there are various teams that take care of different aspects and are there to provide support:

The awareness team can be contacted in cases of discrimination, boundary violations, harassment and (sexualised) violence, or if you have previous experience of such issues and need help dealing with them at the event.
The c3auti team is the point of contact for the needs and problems of neurodivergent beings and takes care of the QuietQube. The QuietCube can also be used by beings who are not neurodivergent.
c3accessibility deals with accessibility issues in advance and is also available at the information desk for minor support requests.

In addition, you can also contact

the CERT, the medical and fire safety team,
the CrewCrew, our security team (consisting of women and non-binary persons) and
the arbitration board are also available to assist you.

c3awareness

People can turn to the awareness team when they have experienced discrimination, boundary violations, harassment or even sexualised violence and there is a connection to the event. Sometimes the issue is about break ups, conflicts, or uncertainty about how to deal with a challenging situation. It might also be a case of people just being overwhelmed by the event and its many impressions.

We are partial, meaning that we are on the side of the person who asks us for support. We do not seek to determine what is right or wrong – our focus is always on ‘How are you feeling about this?’. Naturally, we treat all conversations as confidential.

During the conversation, we will work together to find out how attending the rest of the event can be made as pleasant an experience as possible. Sometimes, however, it is not possible to resolve the issue.

Many of the experiences that cause people to contact us did not happen at the event itself but beforehand. However, they do affect participation in the event because the other person may also be there. Boundary violations, including (sexualised) violence, have a lasting impact on people. The experience must be processed, certain situations are difficult to endure afterwards, and trust in other people or that nothing will ‘happen’ can be shaken or destroyed. Those affected often fear that they will not be believed or that they will even be held responsible (or blamed) for what happened. This makes it difficult for them to talk about their experiences. The thought that the person who committed the assault or violence is at the event, or that an encounter with them could occur, can cause anxiety. Often, the consequence is that those affected no longer feel comfortable and sooner or later stay away. We try to counteract this through our work.

c3auti

The conference is a great event, but it can quickly lead to sensory overload and exhaustion. Many members of the c3auti team are autistic and are familiar with this situation.

c3auti is a team that specifically focuses on the needs and challenges of neurodivergent beings (Autism, AD(H)D, …), as well as beings who would like to take advantage of these offers. All creatures are welcome.

With the QuietQube we offer a quieter place for low‑key socializing/hacking. In addition to a listening ear, you’ll also find tools such as stimming toys or hearing protection. If you need even more quietness, we’re happy to provide you with a silent/dark retreat via the Silent Room. Just let one of our angels know.

In the event of a melt-/shutdown, call us at 1199 or signal another being to do this for you. We’ll pick you up and escort you along the quickest route to a quiet, secluded place where we can support you. Through our close collaboration, we can also connect you – if you wish – with CERT, Awareness, or CrewCrew (Security).

Accessibility

For several years now, this team has been working to remove barriers at the Congress. The team has compiled a large amount of information on accessibility on the infopages and is also available to answer any questions or concerns you may have before the event.

In addition to the information desk, there will be a special contact point for all accessibility issues at the event. There you can ask for help if you need assistance with anything specific. You can also let them know if you encounter any further barriers.

The accessibility help desk is a first-level support service, similar to the information desk, but it may have more experience and sensitivity in supporting people with disabilities. Communication cards containing basic information on how to interact with people with disabilities are also available there. Limited short-term assistance may also be provided. If you foresee that you will need constant personal assistance, please bring your own.

You can also make your own hidden disabilities badge at the accessibility help desk or get help creating one.

@c3tactile is working on tactile signage and floor plans. The team is also supplementing the tactile guidance system already in place at CCH. Please keep the strips clear, as well as the escape routes.

And one more request: some people rely on the lifts to get from one floor to another in the CCH. If you do not need to take the lift, please use the stairs and escalators, as the lifts quickly reach their capacity limits.

39C3: Self-organized Sessions

Workshops, group meetings, short talks, … – Our collective term for all of these is Self-organized Sessions.
You can create Self-organized Sessions already, but dedicated rooms will become bookable gradually this time. The start date for each round has now been determined, see below!
An overview of all Self-organized Sessions can be found in the Hub.
If you are interested in a session, log in and mark it as a favourite – this helps us estimate how large the room needs to be.
To create new sessions yourself, use the Hub’s Backoffice.
Assemblies can decide whether they want to open their “rooms” for Self-organized Sessions. To use that feature, please contact the Hub Support.

Self-organization is the magic word

You want to organize a group meeting or a gathering on a specific topic? Run a workshop? Host a competition or a game? Have you organized something outside the building? Would you like to give a short talk or screen a film? Start a follow-up discussion to one of the main talks? Or plan anything else that needs a place at Congress?

Instead of listing all these things individually or making separate categories, we introduced the term Self-organized Session (SoS) a few years ago. As the name says: these sessions are organized by you.

To create a session, click the plus icon in the top-right corner of the Hub homepage and then select “Self-organized Session”. You will be forwarded to the Hub Backoffice. If you don’t have a Hub account yet, you should create one first.

Room booking

Self-organized Sessions can take place almost anywhere as long as you follow the rules. This is why the location field is a free-text field. Of course, you should check beforehand whether the place you want to use is actually available. For example, you can meet at a bar or inside an assembly (please coordinate with the assembly in advance!). Areas that cannot be used under any circumstances include escape routes – meaning any type of passageway, corridor, hallway, etc.

If you need a space for more people, you can book one of the rooms listed below, or ask an assembly whether they have space available for your session.

When publishing the session, the system checks whether the selected room is still available at your chosen time; otherwise you will see an error message. Once you have filled in the information and saved and published the session, it will appear in the overview so that other participants can find it. If you selected one of the pre-defined rooms, it will later also appear in the full schedule.

This year, not all slots will be released at the same time. Booking for the central SoS locations will open in multiple rounds, so new sessions can still be added throughout the entire period.

The first round will start on Sunday, December 21st at 11:00 CET.
The subsequent rounds will start in Days 1, 2, and 3 at 11:00 CET, i.e., every 24 hours. So new sessions can be added throughout the entire period.

Also new this year: When you select a room, the free 25-, 50- or 80-minute time slots will be shown. Sessions therefore always start on the full hour or on the half-hour.

The following rooms are available for Self-organized Sessions:

SoS Stage H for up to 200 people, located in the center of Hall H (ground floor),
SoS Lecture E with theatre-style seating (chairs in rows) + banquet seating (5 large, round tables) in the back, approx. 235 seats; (Hall E, 2nd floor),
SoS Workshop D with banquet seating (large round tables – ideal for workshops), approx. 120 seats (Hall D, 2nd floor), and
SoS Lecture 6 with theatre-style seating for approx. 60 people (Hall 6, 1st floor).

These four SoS rooms will become bookable via the Hub at specific times yet to be announced.

Please note that each round follows a “first come, first served” principle. Some slots may already be used for team meetings or, for example, the CCC regional meetup before public booking phases open.

Call for Interpreters: Translate 39C3!

Planning for Congress, unsure what to do there, interested in applying your impressive language skills? If you are multilingual and fluent in German, English and maybe other languages, please consider joining the interpreters team, c3lingo.

We interpret ALL talks in the four main halls live and in real-time. German talks are interpreted into English, and vice versa. Our work is streamed to the Internet and transmitted as audio-only streams in the halls, and recordings are published on media.ccc.de. We have another channel where we interpret into more languages, this is transmitted and published in the same way.

That is a lot of material to interpret and in order to succeed, we need YOU. With the “more languages” channel, you have the chance to contribute in an even more special way if you can interpret into another interesting language (from English or German). We mostly feature the French or Spanish language on this channel, but if your skills differ, just let us know – especially if you can bring along a few interpreters for the same target language. Sometimes, we might even use this channel for interesting things that are not (strictly) interpretations.

Don’t be shy. If you are uncertain whether you’re good enough, chances are that you’ll do just fine. In case you‘re struggling, we will take over from you and talk it over later, no harm done.

Once again this year, the Chaos Mentors are joining the Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg!

We’re excited to meet lots of new people who want to experience the colorful, fascinating chaos for the first time, maybe that includes you!

If you’re looking for a bit of support or a small group to connect with during your first Congress, you’ve come to the right place.

Who are the Chaos Mentors for?

Are you curious about Congress but not sure if you’ll feel at home there? Maybe you have specific needs or you’re simply looking for insider tips, inspiration, and good conversations in a small group that matches your interests?

Then we’d love to welcome you and help you get started!

As a mentee, you’ll be matched with a small group of people who share your interests. Your mentor will be there for you even before Congress begins to answer questions, welcome you on the first day, and explore the CCH and 39C3 together with you.

Throughout the entire 39C3, we’ll also have a cozy central space where you can relax, meet others, and connect with fellow Chaos Mentors and mentees.

The earlier you register, the easier it is for us to form suitable groups. Your mentor will reach out to you ahead of the event so you can get to know each other a bit before Congress begins.

Many of us have been part of Congress for years, some for two, others for twenty or more. We all remember how overwhelming that first visit can be: so many talks, assemblies, people, ideas … pure chaos!

Congress thrives on diversity, curiosity, and mutual learning. That’s why we especially want to encourage people who may have felt that they didn’t quite belong – yet.

Of course, everyone who wants to help make Congress more open, welcoming, and diverse is invited to join!

You need a ticket: Unfortunately, we can’t provide tickets. Participation is only possible with your own 39C3 ticket. Even if you don’t have one yet, feel free to register. We’ll check in with you before matching to confirm that you’ve got a ticket.
Do mentors earn angel hours? The Chaos Mentors aren’t part of the Engelsystem, so there are no angel hours for this, but we encourage you to volunteer together with your mentees!

38C3: ISDN Version

2024. The brave new world has completely transformed telephony. IP telephony has replaced conventional telephone technology, including ISDN and all its components. Until 2017, we drove a truck to the Chaos Communication Congress on December 21. We spent days hauling, packing, pulling cables, patching cables, configuring, maintaining main distribution plans and fixing errors so that everything was up and running by 26.12. at the latest. Then we registered every DECT phone by hand from 26.12. onwards. We were finished on 29.12. and on 30.12. we dismantled until the new year.

Over the past few years, we have packed our IP DECT system with features and optimized everything to such an extent that we have even laser-cut our own boxes for our hardware.

We have 3D printed logos for our DECT RFPs, a web server runs in the PoC dwarf and how it works is properly documented in the internal wiki. With screenshot. Translated with DeepL.com (free version) Boring! We arrive by car, someone pushes a computer into the rack, we distribute a few RFPs, connect them to the network and we’re done. Cabling? We don’t do that anymore. We’ve outsourced that to the internet manufacturer. Logging in? We no longer do that. We’ve outsourced it to the users. All the vintage technology is done by Chaosvermittlung. Last year, we took part in Hack Zuck on day one as a team. Because we had time. It couldn’t go on like this. We all realized it was five before total neglect. Tidiness was getting out of hand and before anyone™ had the idea of making art, someone else™ found a very large metal cupboard that was bigger and heavier than our old, rationalized telephone system. The metal cabinet goes by the name of EWSD, which means Electronic Dialing System Digital. And all like this: Yeah!

Back to ISDN

ISDN has been switched off. We’re switching it back on! And analog telephony too.

EWSD is a digital (ISDN) exchange from Siemens for public telephone networks that was in operation between 1980 and today. We have reduced it to a minimum, will set it up at the Congress and connect it to the PoC network.

Visitors have the option of connecting to the EWSD via ISDN or analog. For ISDN: If you have an NTBA, please bring it with you. If you don’t have an NTBA, you can borrow one from us.

For the complete retro experience, you can dial into the Internet via modem or ISDN. Of course with channel bundling. You’ll be surfing faster than you have for a long time!

It is not necessary to register an extension in the Guru for an EWSD connection, there are fixed extensions for this which are assigned locally. More Information. For EWSD information, keep an eye on @c3isdn.

Regisgter an extension

As every year, you can register your extension(s) in GURU3. We offer DECT, SIP, GSM, Callgroups, Applications, Announcements and Special Extensions. Please make sure that you register your extension in the correct event. You do not need to register for analog or ISDN extensions (see above). Registration has been open since 25.11.2024. The reserved extensions are reserved until 13.12. Reservations that are not redeemed then fall back into the pool.

DECT & EPDDI

It is our core product. Stable since 1993, always with the best network coverage¹ at the congress. In the underground car park, on the toilet or on the dance floor. If you can’t be reached on your DECT phone, it’s not because of Eventphone. Want to know if your device works with our system? Take a look at the DECT Phone Compatibility List.

GSM

Lightning Talks?

Did you assume that the thrill of sharing your ideas in front of a huge audience at a C3 was something you’d never experience? Do you work on a cool project and want to get the word out? Was your talk one of the hundreds that got rejected? Did you come up with an awesome hack that you need to share? Go ahead and enter your Lightning Talk now!

The 38C3 Lightning Talks consist of two fast-paced sessions that are perfect for pitching new software or hardware projects, exploits, creative pranks or strange ideas you need to get out to a global audience. Even if you don’t have an awesome idea or project to share, a lightning talk is perfect for pitching your assembly, your workshop or even a longer talk you’ll give as a self-organized session. Your five minutes of fame!

However, we only have a limited number of time slots and we assign these on a “first come, first served” basis. 38C3: Self-organized Sessions

TL;DR

We categorize workshops, group meetings, short presentations, etc. as Self-organized Sessions.
You can create self-organized sessions stubs now, but public room booking will only be possible from 17 December.

To register a self-organized session, use the Backoffice of the Hub.

The magic word is self-organization

You want to arrange a meeting of a group or a discussion about a specific topic? Give a workshop? Host a competition or a game? Organize something outside the building? Want to give a short talk or show a movie? Start a follow-up discussion to one of the big talks? Or plan something else that needs a place at Congress?

Instead of listing all these things individually or creating categories for them, we introduced the term self-organized session a few years ago. Self-organized sessions are, as the name suggests, organized by all of you.

To create a session, click the plus sign in the top right-hand corner of the Hub homepage and then go to “Self-organized Session”. You will be redirected to the Backoffice. If you don’t yet have an account in the Hub, you should create one beforehand. When the session will take place, how long it will last, what you will do there and where it takes place is up to you. For example, you can meet at a bar or in an assembly (please check with those assemblies beforehand!).

If you need a room for more people, you can also book rooms for this purpose from 17 December. When you save the session, a check is made to see whether the selected room is still available at the selected time, otherwise an error message is displayed. Once you have supplied all these details and saved the session, it will appear in the Overview where other participants can find it. If you have selected one of the specified rooms, it will also appear in the schedule (Fahrplan) later.

The following rooms are available for self-organized sessions:

Saal E with theatre-style seating (chairs in rows), approx. 250 seats,
Saal D with banquet seating (large, round tables, e.g. for workshops), approx. 120 seats, and
Saal 6 with theatre-style seating, approx. 60 seats.

These rooms are bookable via the hub, equipped with projector/display and PA, but sessions are neither streamed nor recorded by the VOC.

Please note that this system runs on a first come, first served basis. The Hub enforces that there can only be one session in a given time slot per room. Some slots might already be reserved by “Orga” team meetings or other sessions (e.g. CCC Regiotreffen) before the public booking phase.

38C3 Hub / Wiki / Assemblies

We have opened the 38C3 Public Wiki – which we generally call “Hub” by now. The hub is meant as the central place for getting information about content at Congress: It aggregates the events from the main stages (Fahrplan), community stages, assemblies, as well as self-organized sessions into one schedule which is then also used by the mobile apps.

You can view the registered and accepted assemblies in the Assembly list. Please note, the Assembly team has not yet processed all registrations and the list will fill up over the next few days.

If you miss your Assembly in the list, please check the status of your registration in the backoffice first before sending an email to the assembly team.

Additionally, you can present your projects, share knowledge in the wiki, put your stuff up for grabs, look for ride-sharing options, and find like-minded people to start projects with.

All features are described in more details in the respective sections of the info pages.

As of now the hub’s search only includes information managed by the hub – which right know does not include the info pages, nor the phonebook, nor media.ccc.de, nor this event blog.

The hub project is still in development, and we’d like to hear about your ideas on what should be included! We have several ideas planned but are a bit short-staffed – if you like to help, the source is available. You can contact the team via Matrix #hub:events.ccc.de or email.

38C3 Accessibility Update

How will accessibility be at Congress? We have learned a lot last year. There are improvements.

What is new or different?

An issue with accessibility of the Congress Centre has been resolved: all induction loops should now be operable.
The Accessibility Helpdesk at Infodesk is a place to ask questions.
- Hidden Disability Badges will also be available at the Helpdesk.
Using a wheelchair on 37C3 was difficult. Here’s a list of fixed and remaining issues.
QuietQube has moved one door to the left. Navigation links will be provided soon. The Silent Room will once again be hidden. You can ask for its location on site.
- We can promise that there will be a Meltdown Room this time.

Blind Navigation was challenging at 37C3.

We have made things better:

Tactile paths that would not work will be modified. We will use a mobile guidance system.. We will provide detailed info.
There will be better signage. Including tactile signs. (German Braille)
Infos will be more reliable.

Please help and keep the guidance system free of obstacles. You are encouraged to clear obstacles when you see them.

What will be the same?

To bring an assistant: Show an official disabled ID card at the entrance.
- If you can’t provide such an ID, ask 38c3-tickets@cccv.de for help.
- Please give 38c3-tickets@cccv.de a heads-up if you have multiple or changing assistants.
The lecture halls have priority seating.

Call for Interpreters: Translate 38C3!

We interpret ALL talks in the three main halls and the two community stages live and in real-time. German talks are interpreted into English, and vice versa. Our work is transmitted live in the lecture halls, streamed to the Internet, and recordings are published on CCC sites and YouTube. We have another channel where we interpret into more languages, this is transmitted and published in the same way.

Here are the steps to join us:

Old Elbe Tunnel

A look behind the scenes: The St. Pauli Elbtunnel connects the St. Pauli district with the island of Steinwerder. It was built between 1907 and 1911 and was one of the first road tunnels in the world. On this tour, Thomas Heidborn takes you up into the dome of the head-end building on the St. Pauli side and back to the time when it all began. Details

Train Museum Lokschuppen Aumühle

Vehicles from 150 years of railroad history around Hamburg have been collected and restored in the Aumühle Locomotive Shed Railway Museum. A light railroad takes you on a tour of the site and its exhibits. Expert volunteer members of the museum shed light on the history of the railroad vehicles, signal boxes and safety technology, track construction and many other aspects at several stations. 38C3 Chaos Computer Music Club

We are calling for music nerds who want to perform for other music nerds at the 38C3 Chaos Computer Music Club and at the Chill Floor.

Whether you’ve built your own instrument, use technology in imaginative ways to express yourself with music, are a contemporary DJ emitting genre highlights far outside the mainstream, a band with a constructive political message, or anything in between, we are calling for you to present at 38C3 – from A like Ambient to Z like Zydeco.

Please note that 38C3 is not a music event and we can not pay you as much as you might usually expect to receive on the market.

We are also calling for workshops and talks! If you have an interest in something between music and hacking, and maybe you’ve always wanted to talk about it, we will be happy to hear from you.

To submit your proposals for DJ sets, concerts, talks or workshops, please head over to the Call for Music. If you already submitted to the Call for Art you do not need to submit again. We’ll forward your submission internally. The deadline is 30 November, 23:59 UTC+1.

Chaosmentors at the 38C3

Chaosmentors will be at the 38C3! Interested Mentors and Mentees please registers on our chaosmentors platform before the 10th of December at 23:59 o’clock.

It’s that time again - the Chaos Communication Congress is just around the corner! We are back in Hamburg this year and, as always, we expect many new people to consider attending the Congress for the first time. Are you among them? Maybe you could use a little support to get off to a good start.

Who are the Chaosmentors for?

Are you a hacker or a member of another underrepresented group and are unsure whether you will feel comfortable at Congress? Do you have specific needs that make it difficult for you to participate? Are you interested in topics such as data protection, security, hardware hacking or net politics, but have little or no connection to the community? Are you attending the congress but have the impression that you are not one of these “hackers” and feel like you don’t really fit in?

Then the Chaosmentors would like to welcome you to the Congress and make it easier for you to get started!

You’ve come to the right place and we want to help you have an exciting and enjoyable stay. As a “Chaos Mentee”, you will be assigned a mentor and a group of similar-minded mentees. The mentors are there to answer your questions in advance, welcome you on your first day and explore the site with you. Together we will find out where there are interesting workshops and talks for you and will be there for you as a point of contact. We will also be there to answer your questions, concerns, needs and wishes in the run-up to the event. We also have a meeting point during the congress where you can make yourself comfortable and get to know other Chaos Mentees.

How does this work?

Register before the 10th of December by signing up on our chaosmentors platform with a few details about yourself. Please register as early as possible, as we will start creating the groups before the 10th of December. Tell us a bit about yourself - for example, what brings you to the Congress, why you are contacting the Chaosmentors, what you are interested in and whether you have any specific needs. This way, we can find a suitable mentor for you and put together a group with similar interested mentes. Your Chaosmentor will contact you and your group before the Congress so that you can get to know each other. At the congress itself, you will be able to explore together.

Why are we doing this?

We ourselves have always had a great time at the Congress for 1, 2, 10 or 30 years. However, we know from our own experience how difficult the first step can be. Thoughts like “A big hacker congress, do I even fit in there?” are not unfamiliar to us - many Chaosmentors were once Chaos Mentees themselves. But don’t worry - once you’ve taken the first step, excellent people are waiting for you - and the opportunity to learn an incredible amount. But exchange is not a one-way street: the community at the Congress can also learn a lot from you and thrives on the diversity of the participants. That’s why we want to use the Chaosmentors to encourage people who wouldn’t have dared to come on their own. We are therefore particularly targeting people who do not belong to the strongly represented cis, male, white group. Of course, we do not exclude anyone.

Of course, we are looking for active support from friendly, experienced and reliable mentors again this year. If you would like to take a group of newcomers under your wings and look after them, please register with us. Tell us something about yourself and your interests so that we can find suitable mentes for you. Thank you very much for your support.

Please note

In order to help this year’s Chaosmentors succeed, please follow the following requests:

Registration by December 10th: Register by the 10th of December, we will not be able to consider registrations received after this date.
No guided tours: Please refrain from spontaneously referring people to us. We do not offer guided tours (persistent fake news!) and the programme is for those who have registered in advance. If you meet people who are looking for orientation and connection, first think about how you can support them yourself. Any hacker can also spontaneously become a chaosmentor!
For people on their own: Please don’t send people who are already connected to the congress environment and don’t belong to a minority group to the Chaosmentors just because they are attending the congress for the first time. Become a Chaosmentor yourself and rediscover the congress together!
No tickets: We cannot provide tickets. Please only become a Chaosmentor or mentee if you also have a Congress ticket
Arrival: Please let us know when you plan to arrive to the Congress so that your Chaosmentor can already be present at this time.
