Camp 2023 – Awareness

There will be an awareness team at the camp in 2023 again. c3awareness is there for you if, for example:

you have been harassed or discriminated against,

your personal boundaries have been violated,

you experience (personal or structural) discrimination,

you feel uncomfortable and need a person to talk to.

The most direct way to reach us is by DECT (113), but you can also contact us by mail, via Mastodon or Matrix. If you don’t have DECT, you can also go to the Infodesk or ask someone with DECT to call us. Or you can come to our contact point at CERT.

If you are asking yourself, “Can I go to the Awareness Team already?”, the answer is: Yes! We are there for you.

You can recognise us in person by our pink-purple glowing badges (see above).

How we work

We have a room available for confidential conversations if you want to talk. You decide what you want to tell us. And you decide how to proceed from there. We will support you in finding ways of dealing with the situation or taking action if the need arises. Everything we discuss is confidential, unless we agree otherwise. We invite you to also read our more detailed introduction.

If you have experienced something that you would like to bring to the Arbitration Board, we will be happy to accompany you or prepare this with you. The Arbitration Board is responsible if there is a serious violation of the principles of the event and formal measures are to be taken against a person. You can find more information and the rules of procedure on the page of the Arbitration Board.

If you have physical or medical problems, you can get help from CERT. For safety issues, you can contact the CrewCrew. The c3awareness team also works closely with both teams when necessary.

If the many impressions, flashing lights, lots of people or loud noises get to you, you can go to the QuietPlace. The c3auti team provides support for people on the autistic spectrum, their place is also for all quiet-loving beings.
The c3auti team has also helped organise accessibility in general. For example, the helpdesk offers Hidden Disabilities badges as well as solutions if you can’t wait in queues. Detailed information about accessibility for visitors and Villages can be found in the wiki.

Principles and “Your Rights”

We would also like to point out the revised principles – which can be found on help.ccc.de. Let’s work together for a solidary and responsible community!
One step towards this is to look at one’s own needs and limits. And to be aware that these can be different for other people. The “Your rights” posters are intended to encourage this.

Showers

The issue of showering was a major concern for us during the preparation phase of the camp. The challenge of showering together with others is different for different people. That’s why we’re letting you know what shower options there will be (if nothing goes wrong). Here is the plan – but this can still change, depending on the situation on site:

Family Village in the North

24 showers total

6 of these are single cabins including a dry area for changing clothes

6 showers next to each other for FLINTA (femmes, lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans, agender persons)

2× 6 showers next to each other for all genders

Shower Wonderland in the West

36 showers total

6 of these are single cabins including a dry area for changing clothes

2× 6 showers next to each other for FLINTA (femmes, lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans, agender persons)

3× 6 showers next to each other for all genders

Showers in the South

12 showers total

probably 6 showers next to each other for FLINTA (femmes, lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans, agender persons)

and 6 showers next to each other for all genders

It was not possible to get shower elements with individual showers. Therefore, we tried to get at least a few improvised single cabins.

Single showers

Not all beings are able to shower in open, non-lockable shower tents. The following alternatives exist:

Lockable individual shower containers: The Awareness Team and Heaven have access to lockable single shower containers (gray shower/toilet containers, map M9). Please contact them to gain access.

Wheelchair accessible showers+WCs: there are 3 wheelchair accessible containers with WC and shower. The CERT will give you access to the container north of the entrance (Map U13) and to the container directly at the CERT. Access to the container south-west of the Heaven (map M13) you get from Heaven. The wheelchair accessible containers are for people with physical disabilities.

Access will be granted without questioning your reasons.

We hope that this way all beings on the camp will have the possibility to take a shower.

Meet the Awareness-Team

You want to get to know us? Then come to our workshop! When? Unfortunately we don’t know exactly yet … But we will definitely host something as a self-organised session, which we will also announce via Mastodon.
Otherwise, feel free to just get in touch with us if you want to arrange things in case you need us in any way or to have seen some faces beforehand.

If you want to be part of the team for upcoming events, you can give us your contact at the workshop or otherwise get in touch with us. We have been preparing for the camp together as a team for a few months now and will take people on only after the camp.

Kids and Teens

There will be many children and young people at the camp. That’s great!

For the first time, there will be a “Jugend-Village” (Teens Village) this year, organised by Jugend hackt and others. Jugend hackt has its own awareness structure, but we will also be in close contact with them. We as c3awareness are of course also available for participants from the Teens Village if needed.

Please pay special attention to (other) children and underage teens at workshops, talks, in your Villages and at the bars. Answer questions, provide support if needed, but also be aware of the special need for protection. The Protection of Young Persons Act (“Jugendschutzgesetz”) also applies at camp. Among other things, it regulates the consumption of alcohol and tobacco.
People under the age of 18 are not allowed to smoke. Wine, beer and sparkling wine may be sold to people aged 16 to 18, but not schnapps, long drinks or similar.

You can recognise the members of the Jugend-Village by their additional wristbands. The wristbands for 14- to 16-year-olds are green, those for 16- to 18-year-olds are pink.

The Family Village already existed in 2019. It is an area at the back of the camp site that is especially suitable for children and their companions. You can read more about it in the announcement of the Kidspace.

Camp 2023 – C3VOC.TV / Mobile Recording Setup

TL;DR:

We will have a TV Studio, and you can use it

We need your content and your help

This year, C3VOC and C3 News Show will be presenting their own content in the form of the C3VOC.TV project. Our goal is to capture all the small and big details that can be found outside of the large stages. Informational content for all on camp, around camp and even those who stayed at home will be part of the schedule. We’ll be building our own TV studio in the Feldbahnschau building. News, talk shows, games, interviews, cooking or everything else you could fit in a small TV studio is possible. Either recorded for later broadcast or live on air to our livestream. The studio will be available to everyone.

An editorial team will be collecting news, reports and other content to create a daily TV programme. At least one morning show and one prime time news show per day are in the making. We’ll have news gathering teams with cameras and audio equipment roaming the camp, on the lookout for interesting projects, situations and events. Either for longer format videos or to be included in our news shows.

Please fill us in on cool projects you brought to camp by contacting our editorial team, located near the studio, or just talk to us while we are roaming the site in our pink vests.

You are part of an OC and want to tell your inside story? You want to talk about all the infrastructure you built, in more depth than the usual infrastructure review could take? You’re welcome!

Mobile Setup

In addition to the studio and the news gathering teams, we will have a mobile setup. You can borrow this for a spontaneous talk or workshop recording at your village. The resulting video content can be used for C3VOC.TV as well.

Call for content and volunteers

You want to present your project, ideas or anything else on C3VOC.TV, want to help in our editorial team or want to record a show at the studio? Please contact C3VOC.

You can reach us via IRC #voc-lounge @ Hackint or via Matrix #voc-lounge:hackint.org.

No recording without explicit consent

We will always ask for permission before activating a camera or starting a recording. Accordingly, we’ll leave the lens cover on our cameras until all have consented to being recorded. We’re going to be on the lookout to prevent people from accidentally walking into frame.

Accidental filming can still happen and people might be unsure if they have been in frame. Just alert us there and then and we’ll review the footage together.

If you are on a recording and don’t want to be, let us know. We will not discuss your decision but respect it and solve the problem in the edit.

Camp 2023 – Fahrplan 0.9 release

After many hours of reviews and haggling over the proposed entries, the content teams are proud to present you version 0.9 of the Fahrplan.

Find the schedule on pretalx

We and our awesome speakers and artists present you about 150 Talks, over 60 workshops and almost 50 performance gigs on 10 stages and areas.

For the Chaos Communication Camp 2023, we took a new approach to create this programme, with stages being run by multiple villages.
We had to learn a lot while running this approach, so this first schedule comes pretty late. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused for our speakers.

We received more than 400 proposals overall. We want to thank everyone who submitted an entry. Feel encouraged to host a self-organised session if you did not get accepted. You awesome people submitted way more than we could accept. Deciding what we would have to reject was not easy.

Camp 2023 – Call for Angels

After some years of forced interruption we are happy to organize a (larger) Chaos Event again. In order to make the camp a success, we need your help! Please consider becoming an Angel and support the event by volunteering!

How does this work?

TL;DR

We need you! Register as an Angel (volunteer) at Angel System (Engelsystem) and add your arrival/departure dates.

If you’d like to help with build-up before the 10.08., please contact us per Mail first and wait for our response.

Read the Angel-Guide, especially check our curated packing list.

At campsite, get marked as arrived at the Heaven tent.

Click shifts in the Angel System and help to make the event what it is - a community event.

Questions regarding volunteering? Send us a Mail.

General

Helping is really easy. In order to sign up for shifts, you need to be registered in the Angel System (Engelsystem). Through the Angel System, we - the Heaven - coordinate and distribute the workload among all the volunteers and helping hands. Within the Angel System you can indicate your planned dates of arrival and departure, which helps us with planning. On camp site, you just walk over to the Heaven tent and we’ll mark you as arrived to know you are there. After that you can click shifts and take over tasks. A recommended packing list and further information is available in our Angel-Guide. Please note that all angels also need a ticket for the event.

Build Up

During build-up we have limited generic tasks and shifts. Therefore, please, do not simply arrive early without having checked/discussed your arrival date with us. If you are physically fit and resilient, you like heavy work and the build-up experience, create an account in the Engelsystem, note your arrival date and contact us via ticket@c3heaven.de, so we can plan with your power accordingly. However, due to limited resources, we may refuse your help until a later date and therefore ask you kindly to arrive later.

IMPORTANT: Please, do not arrive under any circumstance before the 10.08. without approval from Orga or heaven. Otherwise, due to resource constraints, you’ll be asked to leave the venue! More important dates are available in Timeline.

During Camp

During the event we have a lot of diverse tasks for everyone, be it specialized jobs, which need some onboarding, up to very simple jobs, anyone can do right from the start. Angel shifts are also a good opportunity to make new friends and give you a great view behind the scenes of our events. Just check the Angel System for a free shift and assign yourself.

Tear Down

We need a lot of Angels also at Tear-Down, so we can revert the campsite back to its natural state. If you are available, stay a couple of days longer for Tear-Down and help us with “renaturation”. For this add your departure date early to your Engelsystem profile.

We are all giddy for Camp and to see you again or meet you for the first time! Without you, your projects and your help Camp would just be an accumulation of tents. Camp is, what you make of it, so let’s make something wonderful - together!

If you have any questions left, we’ll be happy to answer those via the Engelsystem or Mail.

Best regards, Heaven

Camp 2023 – Last Call for Camp Tickets

The most important bit up front: We will release more tickets, to be sold starting tomorrow, July 11th, 20:00 CEST!

After the last round of ticket sales, we had an unusually large amount of orders that were never paid. Combined with an average ticket price of EUR 376.29 that remained noticeably below our goal of EUR 380, we had hoped for both a fuller camp ground and a less uncomfortable budget. (Remember, we shared our budget and the reason for our ticket prices here.

If we don’t sell out completely on Tuesday, we’ll continue to run a normal presale until all tickets are gone or until Camp begins.

But we also have good news: Over the course of the three presale dates, we managed to increase the production of this year’s flow3r badge. The second and the third presale date therefore had sufficient badges available for everybody, whereas some people who bought their tickets in the first round couldn’t order a badge. These people will receive an email (some time today) with a voucher code that will allow them to purchase a badge, also starting on July 11th, 20:00 CEST. (Badges are of course still limited, so we can’t promise there will be enough for everybody who receives this email.)

Camper van tickets are still sold out.

Looking forward to seeing you in Mildenberg!

Camp 2023 – Village-Shop

After successfully registering your village (see Call for Villages) and having it confirmed by the village team, you will get access to the village shop. Here you can order a variety of things that will hopefully make it easier for you to build your village. The voucher code for the shop can be found with your registration in the hub.

All orders will be checked and released in the order of their submission.

Articles will be added and updated continuously, please check back regularly.

Deposit

Some articles require a deposit. This will be payable in the shop and will be returned to you in cash after you’ve given back the items at the end of the event.

Kitchen foo

You can order gas cylinders (11 kg), dinner plates, soup plates, and also IBC (Intermediate Bulk Containers, 1000 liters) for waste water. We will charge a deposit for each item.

You can also buy gas directly at the event. Further, you can pick up or exchange pre-ordered gas cylinders at any time so you don’t have to store them in your village.

Furniture

You can get exhibition tables (for closed tents and solid floors), folding chairs and beer tent sets (one table, two benches).

For all furniture items we charge a collective deposit of 100 €. This will be added to your order and returned to you in cash when you return the items at the end of the event.

Tents and sun protection

We offer a variety of stretch tents, sun shades and tents. Please read the descriptions and check whether the item suits your requirements. Stretch tents have no floor and open sides, which makes them a perfect and breezy sun shade. For a smaller maker space with a lot of tech, installations with side panels and a solid floor might be more suitable.

Tent orders have to be coordinated with our suppliers. This is why all orders will be checked and then confirmed individually.

Please order tents and sun shades as soon as possible. Our camp takes place during peak camping season, so at some unknown point in time we will no longer be able to meet all requests.

Camp 2023 – Presale

Finally, we have all the solid facts we need to kick off ticket sales. Here we go:

Dates

As announced previously, we’ll have three presale dates for admissions tickets. All times are in CEST:

Tuesday, 6.6., 21:00

Monday, 12.6., 15:00

Saturday, 24.6., 12:00 (noon)

The ticket shop will be available at tickets.events.ccc.de, and if we failed to answer
any questions in the following post, we’re happy to help at camp2023-tickets@cccv.de.

As always: be on time!

Tickets

What are we even selling there? More than you’d think! Apart from the usual admission tickets at various prices, we also
have:

Parking tickets. Parking your car will require a ticket this year. This way, we pass the costs for the parking area
to those who use them, and hopefully encourage carsharing and a switch to other options. Since we don’t know the exact
size of the parking area available at this point, the parking tickets won’t be on sale yet. Once they become available,
we’ll notify you here on events.ccc.de, and will also send an email to everybody who has already bought a ticket. The
price for a parking spot is currently planned to be € 40. For those arriving by train, we are planning to offer free
shuttle buses to the train stations in Zehdenick and Gransee which will also stop at supermarkets. They will run at
least during the event days and their schedule will be adjusted to the regional train lines. More details will be
published once they are available.

Camper tickets. For those arriving with a camper van, there are very limited tickets available at € 100 per
camper van. Since camping vehicles require us to build additional infrastructure and we only have very limited area
available, camping vehicles without a camper ticket will not be admitted to the event site.

Badges. We’ll also have an electronic badge again! It’s can play music, blink, and it’s beautiful. We have fewer
badges than tickets available, so there will be a maximum of one badge per person and the badge must be reserved online
during the ticket purchase. The reservation price is € 32. The battery is compatible with the MCH2022 badge, and can
be added for € 4.20. We’ll have more badge info for you soon here on events.ccc.de.

Prices

In order to break even, we need to reach an average ticket price of € 380. This will also be the price of our
Standard Ticket.

There is also a heavily discounted ticket available for € 75 for people aged between 12 and 18 (children aged 11 and
under do not require a ticket). Additionally, there will be an opportunity to apply for a Friends ticket if you are
unable to afford the regular ticket. This option will be available during the announced presale dates, as long as there
are tickets available.

However! These discounted tickets naturally lower our average ticket price. That’s why we kindly ask you, to consider
purchasing a Supporter ticket starting at € 450 to help finance the discounted tickets, if that’s possible for you.
You can also enter any other ticket price above € 380. We are also offering Business tickets again, priced at € 599 and
€ 899. We particularly encourage those who have their participation in the camp financially supported by their employers
to support us with the Business tickets. Only with the Business tickets will you receive an invoice prior to the camp.

We will publish a graph of the average ticket price throughout the presale, so you’ll have the same information we do on
how the presale is going.

Appendix: Pricing explanation

As you probably noticed, the ticket prices are significantly higher than at the last Chaos Communication Camp. This
shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, looking at inflation levels over the course of the last four years, but we want to
use this occasion to introduce more transparency in our pricing, and give you a little peek into the – very preliminary
– budget.

As Camp is mainly run by volunteers, we don’t need to pay a lot of staff. The overwhelming part of our expenses goes
into building the basic infrastructure that we’ll all take for granted, but that usually doesn’t exist at the Camp site.
For example, 39% of the ticket price are used for sanitary facilities, power, and light. Another 23% go towards
containers, tents, stages, woodworking, furniture, and construction machinery required for buildup.

Here are all current parts of our budget. The only parts that are not included are budget positions that are not
financed through ticket sales but through separate channels, such as beverages or t-shirts.

Area

Amount

Sanitary facilities

437,663 €

As already announced in the initial blogpost, we have summarized all important and so far known information about the Camp 2023 clearly for you on the info pages.

You can find the info pages here: https://events.ccc.de/camp/2023/infos. They reflect the current state of information about the camp and are a good starting point to get an overview of all relevant information or to read individual information again. We will update them regularly during the next weeks.

We are thrilled, proud and excited to finally release this year’s camp design to the public. You can find the Style Guide on the info pages as well.
Camp 2023 – Prepresale

The Chaos Communication Camp 2023 presale is not ready to start quite yet, but we have some information for those who are eagerly waiting. Short and sweet:

We’re as impatient as you, but before the presale can start, we need a ticket price, and before we can figure out the ticket price, we need to get our budget planning done, so please bear with us a bit longer.

Tickets will definitely be more expensive than four years ago, to nobody’s surprise.

As always, there will be the option to apply for a Friends Ticket at a reduced price if the regular ticket price is not feasible for you.

The presale will be run as a simple open presale (no vouchers!). We will release batches of tickets at three different times.

The presale dates will be announced on this page, so follow the RSS feed!

You can reach us at camp2023-tickets@cccv.de if you have questions.

Chaos Communication Camp 2023

Hooray, hooray, soon it’s camp time again!

tl;dr:

August 15-19, 2023.

Ziegeleipark Mildenberg.

Camp is outside, outside is (sometimes) cold, hot, dusty or wet, plan for that!

All important info is here in the blog

What is the camp?

Chaos Communication Camp is the Chaos Computer Club’s (CCC) quadrennial hacker meeting and open-air hack party, now in Mildenberg for the third time. Over the course of five days, thousands of hackers, technology enthusiasts, tinkerers, artists and utopians come together on the camp grounds in Brandenburg in the middle of summer to exchange ideas, learn from each other and celebrate together.

The camp offers space for community villages, developer and project group meetings, installations, lightning talks and numerous workshops. We deal with topics around information technology, computer security, hacking, with the make and break scene, the critical-creative use of technology and its impact on our society.

What’s different from 2019?

Here’s a brief overview of the changes from last time that we already know about: Unlike last time, this year’s camp starts as early as Tuesday and ends on Saturday. Sunday can be used for leisurely dismantling and departure. Also for us, unfortunately, the prices have increased in almost all places, which is why we will not be able to avoid an increase in ticket prices. At the moment we can’t give a final price yet, as soon as the calculations allow us to fix the price we will let you know here in the blog. The big lecture tents were used less than expected at the last camps, so we decided to focus more on workshops and community stages this time. Parking on the site will only be possible with a parking ticket this time (will be available on site). To make it easier to get there without a car, we will organize shuttles between the train station and the camp site and from there to nearby shopping facilities.

We will cover most of these topics and all other changes in separate blogposts as soon as we have more details. Stay tuned!

Information channels

In order to inform you as best as possible about the upcoming camp, we will use the event blog and will soon also provide dedicated info pages about the camp. In the blog, we will report in more detail on individual topics, while trying to keep the information on the info pages short and crisp.

Event blog

Here in the event blog we will report in detail on all relevant information about Camp 2023. To be notified about new posts, you can either subscribe to the entire event blog as feed or to the camp2023 category individually.

Info pages

In addition to the blog, we will try to provide all relevant information on a clearly arranged info page. This is still under construction.

Communication channels

If you have any questions or want to network with other participants, we offer an event chat and contact addresses for individual areas.

Matrix

In order to be able to exchange information with other participants in advance, ask questions or look for like-minded people for your project, we offer an event chat based on Matrix. All you need is your own Matrix account. You can find the Camp 2023 space containing all camp related channels here: #camp23:events.ccc.de. If you’ve never used Matrix before, there’s some info about it here.

All good things come to an end…

…even Camp. Our survey shows that almost half of you will depart on Sunday, many others on Monday. To make teardown as easy as possible for you, we made a plan.

Quick vehicle loading
From 10 am on, you can bring your luggage to Ziegeleipark parking lot (here) to load your car. An angel placed there will issue a permit.

Loading vehicles on site
From 3 pm on you can drive your vehicle on site to load it. Please be quick about loading and organize your stuff beforehand so that you can leave quickly. Team village (DECT ASSM / 2776) is on site and will issue a permit once you are ready.
There will be a one-way road system. Entrance on the campground is only possible at gate 3. To exit you will need to use gate 1.

Rented furniture
There will be 3 drop points for your rented furniture. Please see the map below for their locations. Return everything at once and cleaned. As we need to ship most of it on Monday, you would help us tremendously if you take care of that as soon as possible.

Wood, couches and trash
Tear down your wooden constructions, remove screws, nails, tape etc as well as possible and return it to the LOC with your couches (here).

Wood can be returned from 10 am on.

Take your trash to the bins and leave the area clean.

Please drive sober and carefully and have a save journey home. See you again next time.

Good news everybody. There will be a mobile phone network at the camp.
We will setup a 2G/3G network and experiment with 4G as well.

Our network will support general data and voice services. The mobile
network will be connected to the POC, IOW it’s possible to call between
DECT and GSM numbers as usual.

Number registration is done via the guru UI.

Additionally we’re planning to add an interface to send and receive SMS
over HTTP. So you can create your own SMS-IRC gateway!

You will need to use a congress or camp SIM card to connect to our
network, so please bring your SIM cards from previous events, for
yourself and/or to share with your neighbours. We will only have a few
spare SIM cards to sell.

Hey, we’re going to Mildenberg!

Whoah! We’re going to Mildenberg
Whoah! Back to the campground
Whoah! We’re gonna have a party
Whoah! In the Brandenburgische Seenplatte

We’d like to make your travel to camp as smooth and relaxing as possible and have therefore in the following blog post done a detailed writeup of the different modes of travel to camp. A big thank you to everyone who took part in our survey! It’s been a great help.

Bassliner Shuttlebus from Berlin and Hamburg
Following a similar route to last Camp, we’ve organized shuttle services from Berlin and Hamburg. All tours will get you directly to Camp location and back after the event. There is no silly luggage restriction, as all buses come with luggage trailers.

One-way-tickets from Berlin are 13€ and Hamburg costs 23€. Detailed instructions and the booking system are on the bassline website: https://bassliner.org/reiseziel/ccc/.

IMPORTANT: The bus schedule is based on the feedback from the survey. More times can be added, should you’re ideal route not be in the list.

More Bassliners from your city and your time/date
Bassliner offers to do buses from all German cities at your requested date. Key requirement is that you have at least 25 people bindingly committed to the tour. We’ve created a wiki page to help you find 24 other people in your city. All other info can be found there.
IMPORTANT: Deadline for all extra tours is Saturday, the 10.08.2019 23:42 CEST.

By Train ..
As with every CCC Event, there is a DB Event ticket for the Camp.

If you are younger than 27, you may also use the DB Summerticket, which is only 99,60€. There are 4 journeys on it and you can add a detour to some friends or add a stop at the Verstehbahnhof.

.. to Gransee station continuing by public transport bus or shuttle bus to camp

The train station Gransee is being serviced hourly by the RE5 train from Berlin. From there a public transport bus (line 854) drives to Camp (Ziegeleipark) at 10:40, 11:40 and 12:40 daily.

We’ve organized an additional shuttle service, since 3 buses won’t provide enough capacity.
Tickets cost € 3,50. Times are:

on the 19.08. 16:00, 17:00 and 18:00

on the 20.08., 21.08. and 25.08.from 14:00 until 20:00 (min. 1 x / hour if needed more frequently)

on the 26.08. from 9:00 until 14:00 (min. 1 x / hour, if needed more frequently)

.. to Zehdenick station continuing by public transport bus to camp
You can check the buses (line 838) from Zehdenick station on the Brandenburg public transport website, which will get you straight to Camp (Ziegeleipark).

There is more information on the buses in the Camp Wiki.

By CAR
The address for your sat nav can be found in the wiki.

Extrapolating the numbers from our survey, we expect about 2000 private cars! Please double check if Bassliner or public transport might be possible, as it saves parking spaces and helps our environment. Should you have spare space in your car, please consider adding it to the ride sharing/ hitchhiking wiki page!

Please be aware that no cars will be allowed to stay on the camp site and time and space for loading and unloading will be limited. We ask you to carry light luggage onto the event site. We’re trying to source some carts to help with moving luggage.

Ride Sharing/ Hitchhiking
Can be found in under the Ridesharing Wiki page.

By bicycle
The Berlin – Kopenhagen long-distance cycling route runs past camp after ~97km from Berlin. The route is part of D11 as well as EuroVelo 7. The Berlin-Kopenhagen bike route is both scenic as well as separated from cars. It runs through forests and along the river Havel. The whole route is properly tarmacked and road bike friendly.

Anyone not keen on the full distance can take the tube to Oranienburg station. cycle along the B273 eastwards until you hit the Havel and then join the Berlin-Kopenhagen route for 42km.

Camp Wiki contains more into for arriving by bike

By ship
Team Harbor takes care of all creatures arriving by boat. Please contact them if you plan on coming by ship!

Other modes of transport
We’re keen to hear which modes are missing in the blog post, please add them in the wiki.

Enjoy your journey and we’ll see you in Mildenberg.

Use more bandwidth and less Diesel!

Sunny fields, beautiful avenues, starry nights – and a refreshing dive in river Havel. This his how we all know and love our Chaos Communication Camp. But when 5.000 people go on vacation in uncharted territories, there are certain challenges for local infrastructure:
Energy and water supply are simply not designed for such a large number of people.

Energy

Although we try to save energy, our consumption will be higher than the local energy grid’s capacity. This ist why – just like last time – we have to rely on mobile diesel generators. These generators provide audible feedback on our energy consumption, inviting us to critically reflect it.

We would kindly ask everyone to do without large-scale energy consumers. In particular, please try to take a pass on refrigerators. Refrigerators use a lot of energy and thus lead to high costs. At the same time, each self-cooled beverage ist one less beverage sold at our bars. As a result, your self-cooled beverage harms our non-commercial event twice: Even though ticket prices are high, they do not cover all expenses, so we rely on returns from merchandise and beverage sales.

You will be able to smell every Watt-hour produced by the diesel generators. Every large scale consumer reduces our health and raises our costs. Cool kids save energy! A large bucket of water from river Havel is sufficient to cool drinks and packed foods for storage.

Water

Water is a finite resource, in particular when the water comes from a narrow water pipe. Please take short showers – not only for the sake of those waiting in line.

Sustainability

Besides lowering your energy consumption, there are many ways to contribute to a more sustainable camp:

Carpooling!
You’ll find options in our Wiki category “Hitchhiking”. In the Wiki, you will also find information on arriving by train, bus or bike.

Even if you’re not coming by bike, try to organize a bike to run your errands in the surrounding villages.

Buy regional groceries instead of bringing large supplies from far away.
CCC bars sell bottles with refundable deposit and will also refund you.

Bring re-usable dishes and cutlery!
Our teams C3GELB and C3 Sustainability will provide dishwashers to reduce disposable cutlery. By the way, heavy dishes are better than light plastic, which will only fly around in the dish washer.

Bring re-usable water bottles.
There will be several places to fill them.

Plan your village decoration so that you can re-use it at the next event.

Bring Solar modules for your own independent power supply.

Avoid trash and plan to take your own trash home after the event. This helps you monitor your trash production and lowers our disposal costs.

If you have further ideas and recommendations for a more sustainable event, please let C3 sustainability know:

@c3sustainability@chaos.social

Twitter @c3sus

Mailing-list

We are looking forward to your recommendations!
Those of you who are interested in ecological matters, are welcome to meet and discuss at Village Bits&Bäume!

Being an Angel at Chaos Communication Camp 2019

Hello fellow life form.
Let’s get it out of the way: We need lots of volunteers, especially for teardown. If you want to help, become an angel.

I want to help
That’s easy. You just need to register on Engelsystem and come to heaven on camp. You’ll find more details in our wiki.

I want to help with buildup
There are not as many different tasks during buildup, so please don’t arrive early without talking to us first. If you are resilient, love to to tackle even heavy work and want to arrive early for buildup please contact us at ticket@c3heaven.de so we’re able to plan for you accordingly. Be aware of the timeline.

I want to help during camp
Nice! Being an angel is one of the best opportunities to meet new people and look behind the scenes. There are many different tasks in the Engelsystem and you might join different teams on the “Angeltypes” page. There’s an overview of angeltypes. Questions will be answered by heaven in the Engelsystem and via email to ticket@c3heaven.de.

I want to help with teardown
To leave no traces we especially need angels after camp. Just stay a little longer and help with teardown.

What else is there to know?
We’ll be surrounded by nature, so plan and act accordingly.
Be aware of heat and the sun, drink more water and apply sunscreen.
This checklist might give you some pointers on what to consider.
There will be a tent only (no campers) heaven village, although we encourage you to prioritize populating other villages first.
For further and frequent questions monitor the “Ask the Heaven” page on Engelsystem.

We look forward to your contributions, projects, and participation as Camp is what you make of it. Without you, it would just be a pile of infrastructure right in the middle of nowhere. So let’s make the Camp into a Hackerevent worth remembering. See you.
