39C3: Call for Angels

39C3 needs your help! No Congress would be possible without the many volunteers, called Angels (German: Engel).

Whether you’re participating for the first time or have already experienced many cycles, helping as an Angel is always a great way to meet new beings, get a look behind the scenes, and create unforgettable experiences for yourself and others.

If you’d like to help, register in the Engelsystem. After your arrival at Congress, come to the Angel registration on the right side of the entrance hall. There you’ll receive your Angel badge and can then freely sign up for shifts for upcoming tasks. Alternatively you can find Heaven in Hall X. If you already own a lanyard for your Angel badge, please bring it and continue using it. You can find more information in the Angel Guide.

For the buildup and especially for the teardown, we always need many helping hands. So if you can come earlier or stay a bit longer after the event, we look forward to your help. Help is particularly needed during teardown, especially from beings who haven’t already exhausted themselves during the buildup and Congress. The buildup begins on 20 December. From then until the start of Congress, there will be numerous tasks each day, especially distributing sofas, tables, and chairs. Please do not come before the 20th, tasks and infrastructure are only available from that day.

To help with the buildup, just come by starting on the 20th! Access to the CCH during buildup is (as usual) via the back side (Tiergartenstraße) through the entrance to Hall H. During the buildup you can find Heaven as Pre-Heaven directly in Hall H. We’ll announce any changes to the buildup information in the Engelsystem and on Mastodon.

Please remember during the event, especially as an Angel, to supply yourself with food and water. We’re happy to support this with Angel water at Heaven. Please bring your own refillable water bottle to save resources. There is also a possibility to receive warm meals. However, please note that the food is limited by the kitchen’s capacity and is primarily intended for Angels who have no alternatives. To coordinate this (and prevent a kitchen DDoS), digital food vouchers for meals will be issued this year via the Engelsystem. We’ll inform you about the exact procedure in the Engelsystem News.

This year the teams paid special attention to provide more detailed shift information. That way you can judge for yourself whether a shift fits you.

In just over a month, the 38th Chaos Communication Congress will begin. That we will have a great time together again and find “Illegal Instructions” is only possible thanks to the many volunteers, called Angels.

Being an Angel is always a great opportunity to meet other beings and take a look behind the scenes. You don’t have to commit now – you can decide to help out during the event.

For Angels (German: Engel), there is the Engelsystem. Register there and visit Heaven when you arrive at Congress. After picking up your Angel badge in Heaven, you can freely sign up for shifts for upcoming tasks. You can find more information in the Angel Guide.

During build-up and especially teardown, we always need many helping hands. So if you can come earlier or stay a bit longer after the event, we look forward to your help. Help is particularly needed during teardown, especially from beings who haven’t already exhausted themselves during build-up and the event itself. The build-up starts on 20 December. From then until the start of Congress, there will be numerous tasks each day, particularly the distribution of sofas and the distribution and setup of tables and chairs. Please do not come before the 20th; if support is needed before then, we’ll announce it spontaneously on Mastodon: @c3himmel@chaos.social.

If you want to help, just come by – even spontaneously! Access to the CCH during build-up is via the back (Tiergartenstraße) through the entrance to Hall H. Changes to this will be announced in the Engelsystem and on Mastodon.

37C3: Call for Angels

Greetings, galactic life form,

there is not much time left until the 37th Chaos Communication Congress starts. Like everything we do, 37C3 only works if we make it happen together. If you want to help out at 37C3, become an Angel.

Volunteering as an Angel makes it easy to take some peeks behind the scenes and to become friends with other life forms. You don’t need to decide to volunteer right now. It’s possible to start volunteering anytime.

All you have to do to become an Angel is register in the Engelsystem and then come and get your badge from Heaven at the event. In the Engelsystem you’ll find open tasks and you can sign up to shifts on your own. Additional information will appear bit by bit on the info pages until 37C3 starts. There also is an Angel Guide again that contains all relevant information in condensed form.

For build-up and especially the tear-down we’ll also need your volunteering power. If you’re able to show up earlier or stay longer, we’ll be grateful for your help. Especially for tear-down help is urgently needed, also and in particular from life forms who have not yet exhausted themselves during the build-up and the event itself. The build-up probably will start on December 20th and from that day on until congress starts, there will be lots of different tasks every day, primarily distribution of couches and distribution and build-up of chairs and tables. Unfortunately we will not be able to provide accommodation for people helping during build-up and tear-down.

If you want to help, just come by! Access to the CCH during build-up probably will be via the back side (Tiergartenstraße), either via the porter entrance or the entrance to Hall H. The situation can also change dynamically during the build-up from day to day. As soon as we know more, we will publish the relevant information in the Engelsystem and on Mastodon (see below).

If you are fluently bilingual, please consider joining the translation team. Not every person interested in the content at 37C3 is able to understand German and/or English. Our mission is to remove that language barrier and make Congress available to an international audience. Dear living entities, we’re almost there: divoc 2022 will be opening it’s doors in a few days. So we’ll be needing the help of additional angels: heralds, signal angels, translation angels, welcome angels, but also stream watchers and chatroom observers. Angels are the voluntary auxiliary carbon compounds making the whole congress possible. They run everything: introduction of speakers, audio/video streams and recordings, data, electricity and phone networks, bars, and even emergency services.

What makes being an angel so special, you may wonder. Let us answer this with a question: Are you able to run an event with thousands of visitors, creative minds, eager to discuss, explore and most of all: create?

Join the angels and find out! Doing so, you will join a community as old as the Congress itself. Since the very first Congress in 1984, everything is done by volunteers called ‘Angels’. In return, the angels get some quiet space in the famous ‘Heaven’ including food and drink supply, and the good feeling of helping out and being part of the Congress experience.

To become an angel, all you have to do is to register in the engelsystem where you can sign up for your favourite shifts, times and tasks. Many of the tasks do not need any knowledge besides showing up on time but are nonetheless vital for the Congress. Other tasks may need an introduction with which you will be provided in time at the 30C3. Please read the angel wiki page for basic information.

If you do not yet know, how to start, you can also visit the heaven and ask, how you could help. There you can also receive information about shortages and important tasks.

So if you have two or more hours to spare, sign up for a shift! We will be waiting for you in Heaven!

If you don’t want to participate in making the congress work, at least take your time and thank at least 3 angels every day to show your gratitude. :)

What makes being an angel so special?
It’s the best way to meet new people. You will get to know a lot of people from the community in a short time, there are always other angels that can show you around and help you around Congress.

The Congress would not be possible without many people donating their time bringing the Congress to life and dealing with all the side effects of bringing thousands of hackers together in a congress center.

Since the very first Congress in 1984, everything is done by volunteers called ‘Angels’. In return, the angels get some quiet space in the famous ‘Heaven’ (which will be huge this year) including food and drink supply, a good feeling of helping out the CCC to rock the Congress and being part of the Congress experience. Without those great people, Congress wouldn’t be Congress. We are really proud of our supportive community and all the people that pitch in to help making the Congress overwhelming.

There are many ways to help during 29C3! Perhaps you want to be a part of setting up Congress or tearing it down? Or you can help out while the Congress takes place, e. g. you could be part of the video and streaming crew or run the cash desks, the infodesk, the network operations, be an signal angel or herald or even support us at the entrance. As mentioned before, the Congress can’t happen without the Chaos Angels – from building up to tearing the whole thing down the Angels are a vital part of the Congress.
