Auch 2021 leider kein Congress in Leipzig

Over the past few weeks, we have carefully evaluated the possibilities for a Chaos Communication Congress 2021 in Leipzig. In a joint discussion of the many different teams involved in the organization, we have determined: The necessary protective measures and restrictions would distort the spirit of the event beyond recognition.

For this reason, we have jointly decided not to have a presence event in Leipzig this year.

We know that many of you were looking forward to a meeting in Leipzig. You would have gladly accepted restrictions, requirements and security precautions. At a certain point, however, we have to ask how much Congress spirit would remain.

The Congress thrives on spontaneity, international exchange and, above all, a lot of chaos. We want to experience all of this again in winter 2022, together and without constraint.

Status of the Event at the End of 2021

TL;DR: We’re trying to make an on-site event happen. There will be, in any case, an online part. More info later in the year.

It’s an early time in the year, especially for blogpost regarding the congress. Nevertheless we want to inform you about our plans regarding an event end of the year. Even though it’s not clear how an event end of 2021 could be like, we are going to try to make an on-site event happen at the usual time of the year. whether that is possible or not is uncertain at this point.

In any case, there will be an online part.

We’re optimistic that we’ll have more information for you at the end of summer (August/September). As soon as we have, you’ll find it here on the CCC Events Blog.

37C3: current status

TL;DR: We will probably know in October whether and how the Congress will take place in Leipzig this year.

Dear Community.

This year so far has been a very chaotic one for most of us. The future, as we saw in March, can change faster than we would like to imagine. There is still half a year until the usual congress date, but because of our current situation and in order to prevent rumours, we want to be transparent this year, so that you can adapt to different situations.

The initial planning for a 37C3 has begun. After initial talks it became clear that Leipzig Trade Fair is the only reasonable option for us this year. This means that the 37C3 will take place in Leipzig – if it does as a physical event.

At the moment we cannot assess whether the 37C3 is feasible at all. Even if it should become legally possible, we know about the special responsibility towards our participants. In order to fulfil this responsibility, our CERT is involved in the evaluation of the situation.

We expect the situation to be clear enough by October at the latest to make a reasonable decision for this event. This explicitly means that we must keep all options open – including pushing back 37C3 to 2021. As soon as there is a final decision, it will be published on this blog as usual.
