" alt="After Party" width="210" height="300" />We already told you about talks, workshops and assemblies at 29C3, but it seems we didn’t talk about parties by now. So it’s about time to do so.

On location we will have two main spots. There will be a tent in front of CCH with DJs and live sets. Music will be on from 4 pm to 6 am every day. Since smoking won’t be allowed at all inside CCH the tent will also be a place where people are allowed to ruin their health. The second spot will be a chillout area at top level of CCH which we call Ten Forward. This one will have relaxed sounds – both, electronic and acoustic sets.

At 30th of December right after the last talk we will have an After Party at a very cool spot called Universum Alltona, starting at 8 pm. Join your fellow raving hackers and enjoy some wicked sets from Dr. Motte, Fannie Mae & Carsten Plug, Neal White and David & Klein. There will be food, drinks and also an ambient floor. People with a 4-day-pass will get free entry. The Universum can be found at Amalia-Rodrigues-Weg 6, S-Bahn station Diebsteich just 3 stops away into direction Elbgaustraße. As a goody we will also offer an old American school bus as a convenient shuttle between CCH and Universum from 7:30 to 12 pm for free.

For people heading to Berlin right after 29C3 our friends at c-base are also going to have a party as usual.

Experience the Congress the best way – join the angels!

What makes being an angel so special?
It’s the best way to meet new people. You will get to know a lot of people from the community in a short time, there are always other angels that can show you around and help you around Congress.

The Congress would not be possible without many people donating their time bringing the Congress to life and dealing with all the side effects of bringing thousands of hackers together in a congress center.

Since the very first Congress in 1984, everything is done by volunteers called ‘Angels’. In return, the angels get some quiet space in the famous ‘Heaven’ (which will be huge this year) including food and drink supply, a good feeling of helping out the CCC to rock the Congress and being part of the Congress experience. Without those great people, Congress wouldn’t be Congress. We are really proud of our supportive community and all the people that pitch in to help making the Congress overwhelming.

There are many ways to help during 29C3! Perhaps you want to be a part of setting up Congress or tearing it down? Or you can help out while the Congress takes place, e. g. you could be part of the video and streaming crew or run the cash desks, the infodesk, the network operations, be an signal angel or herald or even support us at the entrance. For more information please take a look at the wiki: https://events.ccc.de/congress/2012/wiki/Volunteers.

To become an angel, all you have to do is to register in the engelsystem where you can sign up for your favourite shifts, times and profession.

A big thank you to all angels for the good work and for keeping the congress running!

Finish your assembly until Sunday!

The congress is coming closer. The next stage will be the placement of the assemblies. So please make sure that you have set up your assembly nicely until Sunday, 2nd of December:

complete all the information in the form, so everyone can get an overview of your assembly

in the “free text” field you can add pictures and other formats as well. Give an impression of your projects, the whole assembly and the people behind it. The “free text” will be the body of your page.

Make it clear if you’re planning workshops on site. If so, please update the information about them.

Last but not least: Choose an area for your assembly, if you wish:

You will find a new field in the assembly form, that is called “area”. You can choose your preferred location inside the CCH and give us some notes on criteria that are important for your assembly space. We will take your wishes into account, but can’t guarantee that you will end up there. So please make sure you have a look at the final plans before setting up your stuff. To get an overview on the new venue and it’s possibilities please visit the wiki page describing the areas for assemblies.

Workshops – and all other events besides the main talks

tldr:
Congress is made by you! Please add your workshop. A “workshop” is just something, that happens at a special time and place, but not in one of the big halls.

As you may have read in the blogpost on assemblies this congress will be even more community driven than it used to be. One step towards this is allowing you to hold your own sessions on whatever topic you think is important. We kindly ask you to prepare “workshops”.

That does not mean, that it has to be something with hands-on and making – sure it could be! But workshops can also be a gathering of a project group or discussing a special topic. They can be contests or games, activities outside of the building or even small talks, a follow-up-discussion on one of the “big talks” or any other topic that happened recently – or something completely different that you think deserves a place at the congress!

This year we will generate one big schedule of all those events, so that you can see everything that happens on one page. This is done using the semantic features of the wiki – so it is very important that you use the forms properly when you add your workshop.

For workshops we will have four fixed places, and maybe some more dynamic space at your assembly. The rooms are:

workshop 12, with 60 square meters

workshop 13, with 78 square meters

workshop 14, with 60 square meters

and the speaker’s corner, that is an open space close to hall 1 and the main foyer.

Please refer also to the wikipage to find more details on how to add your workshop.

CCH: A brief introduction

The Congress Center Hamburg is located just a few minutes away from the Dammtor train station which is a major transport hub of northern Germany and also within the public transport network of Hamburg. Light rail is called S-Bahn and in the Dammtor station you will find the lines S11, S21 and S31. The subway station is called »Stephansplatz« and is on the U1 line. The “Dammtor” station is also a major train station for long distance trains (e.g. ICEs) to Scandinavia, Berlin, Hannover and further into Europe.

Close to the CCH are areas like Schanzenviertel, Alster, Reeperbahn, Jungfernstieg and lot’s of other interesting places where you can hang around or party. For food you probably want to have a look around the area around the campus of Hamburg University (north of the venue), around Grindelallee or from Dammtor to Gaensemarkt.

Moving to the new venue also means we will have bigger halls for the lectures: The biggest one already fits nearly as much people as the whole bcc did (on paper ;)

Another one has a nominal capacity of 800 people – that’s close to the old bcc capacity of bcc’s big hall Saal 1. The third one will be smaller, with nominal space for around 380 persons it provides an amount of seats similar to Saal 2 or Saal 3 in Berlin.

There will again be space for you and your projects, and – as you already have read in the blog post on assemblies – some more space for small scale talks and workshops all around the building.

Of course, there will be a lounge as well!

Assemblies

We want you to bring more of that Camp feeling to the Congress! The event suffered from stagnation over the past few years. This time you can shape the conference a lot more than you already did in Berlin. To start that transformation, there’ll be a new thing called Assemblies. Ideally, these should work much like Villages on the Camp, but not exactly the same way.

Up to 28C3 last year we’ve assigned seats and tables to projects that registered in the wiki beforehand. Space has been a very scarce resource, thus we had to keep a close eye on allocation. Hopefully, that will change for the better in the CCH. Naturally we can’t guarantee this, because we don’t know how many people will come there. It might turn out that we can realize only some parts of what we dream of. It is an experiment, and as such may as well result in failure.

So what exactly shall those Assembly things be?

In contrast to projects on past Congresses, which have been centered around the work that people do, Assemblies focus on social groups of people. Obviously there will still be projects, but they’ll rather be parts of an Assembly than stand alone. If you are a group of hackers who like to work and hang out together, you might consider setting up a home base on 29C3. Bring your toys, work on projects, have fun and let others participate in what you’re doing! That’s what an Assembly is all about.

Assemblies are also invited to decorate their spot on the Congress as long as everything you bring with you does not block exit paths and is not inflammable. These two requirements are important, and if your installations don’t fulfill them, we’ll be forced to remove them.

Last but not least, letting others participate in what you know – and what you’re doing – is central for everything going on at the conference. We want you to share your knowledge and thus we’d like to try something. If people in your Assembly want to offer workshops or maybe lectures on a small scale, maybe there’ll be enough space for you to integrate a workshop area into your Assembly. We will not provide projectors, canvas or anything apart from chairs and tables, but probably you’ve got those anyway. But please, don’t bring PAs or other sound systems, since your neighbors won’t like the cacophony of a dozen Assemblies around playing all kinds of different music.

If you would like to have small-scale workshops in your Assembly, tell us what you’re planning and for how many people. Please be as specific as possible. We will probably not allocate extra workshop space for your Assembly, if you haven’t published something like a schedule on your Assembly page. For now it will be sufficient to list topics and speakers, later we’d like to see a timetable as well.

So, that’s the general idea. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to reach that ideal inside a building. The place is big, okay, but still limited. As a consequence, we’ll probably be forced to monitor and adjust allocation of space to the individual Assemblies. So we need you to inform us about what you’d like to do, how much space you’ll need, what you’d like to bring with you, how much power your gear will consume, etc…

The conference wiki, which will go public soon, makes use of semantic wiki data. We’re currently still working out some aspects related to information about Assemblies, but once we’re done you should create a wiki page describing your Assembly and tell us all we need to know. The more you tell us about your plans the better your chances that you’ll actually get what you want. Even though you won’t be able to enter that information into the wiki right from the start, please start thinking about it now. We’ll inform you once we’re done with creating all those semantic forms and templates.

For bigger workshops there will be workshop rooms. So if you’re planning to work with a group of let’s say 20 people, you’ll probably want reserve a time slot there. We will soon post a howto on doing this.

You’d better start planning for your Assembly now. Participate and share with others! The Congress is made by you, so help making it what you think it should be.

29C3 – Tickets and Pricing

29C3 will cost us much more than standard tickets priced at 80 EUR will pay. Thus we’ll sell supporter tickets for 100 and 120 EUR. Please consider buying one of these. Help us minimize our losses and support others who can’t afford paying much more! Thanks a lot! :)

Moving the 29C3 to Hamburg will cost a lot of money. As far as we know yet, 80 EUR for a standard ticket will not cover those costs, even if a lot more people will show up at the conference. If we wanted 29C3 to make no loss, based on our current calculation, the price for a conference ticket should be something around 100 to 120 EUR.

Anyway, we will not raise the price for a standard ticket, keeping it at 80 EUR, since we know that some of you can’t afford paying more. For those of you who can’t even pay 80 EUR, please contact 29c3-friends@cccv.de and tell us a bit about yourself, what you’re doing and how much you could pay. Be sure, we’ll find a solution.

BUT, if you feel you can afford it, and if you feel that Congress might be worth it, please consider buying a supporter ticket. We sell these in two versions, one for 100 and the other one for 120 EUR. Which one you choose, if any, depends on you.

If you want your company to buy a ticket for you, or if you’d simply like to pay a bit more, we sell business tickets for 350 EUR. Please note that this is the only ticket type that comes with an invoice including a name and an address.

Just a friendly reminder that the submission deadline for proposed talks and workshops is fast approaching. You only have a couple of days left – until September 30 – to think about what you’d like to contribute, and as always, we welcome your input. Please read the whole CFP here:

29C3 Call for Papers

Spread the word, submit a talk – and see you in December in Hamburg!

Invite all the Speakers!

You know someone who could tell us interesting things at the congress? You recently read an article and thought “It would be great to hear that person speak at the congress”? But you are not sure if he/she/it knows about it? Then just tell them!

There are many ways to do that, the easiest one would be sending an email like this:

“Hey [name], I like your [article /talk/project/something] and I would love to see you at the 29th Chaos Communication Congress. You can find the Call for Participation here: [link]. If you need any help with the submission form I would be happy to assist you. Be aware that the submission deadline is September 30th!”

Of course it would be much nicer if you wrote some more:
You could write some words about the congress: you can use the Wikipedia entry or the older congress pages for copypasta. It will be even nicer if you find your own words. You can also point out that a lot of great people have spoken at the last editions of Chaos Communication Congress, and this would be a good opportunity to be listed on the same page with those people ;)

Please make sure that the speaker does not get the impression that you are from the content team or that you are issuing an official invitation.

You could also write to 29-content@cccv.de and suggest a speaker. Tell us something about him/her and how great it would be to have them! Give us links to talks he/she held and just everything we should know to invite him/her.

Let’s build a great congress together!
