Day 3
on the first night we looked at maps(day 3 12:00)
we sit at the table with the queer argentinian-german artist couple vöcks de schwindt. we lean over maps, photos, documents and a songbook. mate tea is served. together we travel across borders and continents along the migration history of their families. we follow the trail ofthe volga germans, who left the german region of hesse in the 18th century to emigrate to russia and continued their path to south america 100 years later.
in a continuously shifting narrative, the couple deconstructs nationalist myths and contradictions in family identity, searches for a queer heritage and encounters ancestors who can only be who they want to be when they are not in the place where they believe they belong.
vöcks de schwindt are an argentinian-german directing duo. their works range from autobiographically motivated performances to multilingual drama productions and music theatre in its different forms. the two directors are currently exploring questions of migrant identities, queer heritage, male tenderness and the role of rituals in our present day. vöcks de schwindt were invited with their works at venues and festivals such as the td berlin, the ballhaus ost in berlin, staatsoper unter den linden in berlin, the lichthof theater in hamburg, the lofft – das theater in leipzig, the wuk theater quartier in halle/saale, el galpÓn de guevara in buenos aires (argentina) as well as the altofest in naples (italy) and valletta (malta).
