We live in times of fierce conflicts and their violent escalation. One of the central theses of Susanna Jalka's work is that a viable democracy and a conscious culture of dealing with conflicts constuctively go hand in hand.
In this session, I would like to explore this thesis with you on the basis of a seminar I am conducting this winter.
Bring your questions, insights from your own experiences, from lived practices in dealing with conflicts, and to what extent all this is also relevant in digital worlds and how it can be implemented and cultivated there.
What exactly will this SOS session be about? We will engage in a number of exercises and dialogue rounds based on the following questions:
-
How do you argue? How do others argue? How do you experience conflicts? What actually are conflicts? Which dynamics promote conflicts?
-
How can elements and findings of postcolonial studies, of intersectional theories and psychotherapeutic/psychosomatic concepts help in dealing with conflict experiences and dynamics? How are social crises and tensions, discrimination processes and histories of violence, as well as their negotiation in specific socio-cultural cultures of conflict and discourses, connected? What does it mean to build and stand up for a culture of peace? And what role can and do the arts play here?
I am looking forward to seeing you. In addition to exercises, I will also bring some literature for further reading.
