An Attempt to Establish Contact Since the migration summer of 2015 and the brief creation of a humanitarian corridor along the Balkan route, EU immigration policy has become increasingly radicalized.

“Border Calls” invites people to listen to those engaged in their respective struggles, using the metaphor of being called. Repurposed, former Telecom Club phones serve as part of the exhibition "Border Calls," encouraging passersby to pause, reflect, and for a brief moment, open themselves to the voices of people enduring the winter in neighboring countries of the EU—individuals who seem out of reach amidst the bustle of the city.

Visitors can pick up the receiver and use a newly installed pad to dial a number. Each number connects them to the voice message of a person currently experiencing the crisis at the EU borders. The recordings are partially in English and partially in German, depending on the language proficiency of the speaker.

The art installation "Border Calls" aims to inspire discussions about what a practice of solidarity beyond our national borders could look like.
