We tried mass demonstrations against surveillance, and failed. We are trying to stop it one court case at a time. But we could campaign for a kind of Internet that technically cannot be surveilled. And we can make it a legal requirement for a Next Generation Internet.

We tried mass demonstrations against surveillance ("Freiheit statt Angst", "Stop Watching Us!"), and failed. Now we are trying to stop it one court case at a time. But we could do more. We could campaign for a kind of Internet that technically cannot be surveilled. And we can make it a legal requirement for a Next Generation Internet. We could pressure our parliaments to require that all computers and phones sold after a certain year function with technology that does not put what's left of our democracies at risk of systematic surveillance and mass manipulation. Let's discuss this. We need a new campaign, we need a clear political request (that political parties can support and citizen can petition for) and we need to organize demonstrations on the streets not against surveillance but for safe and civil-rights-respectful technology, because we all want to enjoy the advantages of digitalization, but not in the stupid brainless way the industry is doing it!
