Self-organized session notes We'll do at least one 30-minute workshop on very basic sprite editing to customize how a game appears (run by my 14-year old son), and we're hoping to find other young people or supportive parents who can run something on Minecraft Modding, or writing lua extensions for Gary's mod, or other things that blend hacking and gaming.

Brings We bring a place for kids who are interested in computers and computer games, but don't necessarily (yet) have the confidence to hack. While CCC is not a gaming convention, for many young persons, tinkering with games is the entry path to hacking, so we're looking at this as a place for kids to gather to tinker and game, and maybe learn a bit in the process.
Projects It really depends, we'll do at least one 30-minute workshop on very basic sprite editing to customize how a game appearing (run by my 14-year old son), and we're hoping to find other young people who can run something on Minecraft Modding, or writing lua extensions for Gary's mod. While the ideal would be that kids who meet here start hacking on games together and this leads to long-term projects, it's more likely that they'll tinker a bit, get bored, and play games together. That's OK.

UPATE: We're currently colocated with the Jugend Hackt table. If we find out that's not enough space, we'll be using a table in the workshop area. Also please note the Let's Play session at https://events.ccc.de/congress/2017/wiki/index.php/Session:How_to_Let%27s_Play!

At the last couple of CCC's, there's been a determined cluster of young (12-16) kids attempting to play computer games in the kids zone. They scavenged a table, one went out and bought a powerstrip, they hunted down chairs, and they tried to tinker a bit with minecraft, terraria, and a few other games. We're hoping to meet that need (ideally being placed next to the kids zone, wherever it is), and expand on it a bit by having a few short (30-minute-ish) morning sessions on how kids can get a start tinkering with games, through playing with modules, or just editing content. We expect it will be hard to keep most kids focused on hacking, so this will be more about the gaming.

Looking for kids or interested parents to lead very short sessions on things like modding minecraft, using lua with Gary's Mod, editing sprites, music and other game content, and maybe stick around for a bit to help interested kids try to tinker with things for a while before they get back to gaming.

Most likely languages will be German and English.
