AVIT^C3 MIDI Lab
MIDIFY - DONT MYSTIFY
In this workshop we will explore different methods of controlling VJ applications with dedicated MIDI hardware.
After a short introduction to the need-to-know basics of the MIDI protocol, necessary for understanding the hardware/software interaction, and a glimpse on the freeframe protocol, we will cover different approaches of MIDI-controlled VJing, ranging from AV-Scratch and clip triggering, to texture-based and 3D oriented apps using OpenGL - on the basis of commercial apps like visual jockey. resolume, pilgrim, and freeware/shareware like neuromixer, midivid and alternatives.
After these demonstrations the audience will be given opportunity to play with several devices in a lab setup, ranging from groove boxes, drum machines, MIDI keyboards, sequencers to knob controllers, like the Faderfox, the mixman dm2, midi-breath controllers and other strange gear.
