Mechanism design usually takes the perspective of a modernist social planer or profit maximizing sociopath. To motivate alternative objective functions, we will bring some examples from James_C.Scott, from _Domination and the Arts of Resistance: Hidden Transcripts _ and _The Art of Not Being Governed . We welcome everyone to bring other potential motivating texts.
