Ideas for the next camp
Let's collect some ideas for the next camp, so that we still remember them in four years.
- More showers?
- one bit of feedback from the women in tech discussion/workshop: unisex showers are all nice but some people just want/need gendered showers; while those existed, there should be signs at the unisex showers advertising their existence and location
- Improved water heating: We burned diesel to produce electricity to heat the water. This was not very efficient. The generators produce at least 2 times more heat than electricity. Next time run the cooling fluid from the generators through a heat exchanger to heat water going to the showers. Make sure to mix the almost boiling hot water with cold water through a thermostatic mixing valve to avoid scalding in the showers, and you will have safe and plentiful hot water for "free".
- Mandatory labels for small children? Some children got lost in the camp (but were found again), maybe they should have a wrist band with their parents DECT number or something
- does this means mandatory DECT for parents ? I see a nany-state coming there ;)
- Better alert system, obviously, but CERT is already working on it, I think
- More angel food, maybe? Some days, there was no more bread at around 11:30 am
- Signage would be useful. Simple signs pointing the direction to the toilets (+1), first aid, infodesk... things like that.
- As international camp, all the signs should be (also) in English.
- At least those that need words. Pictograms are even better, provided that they are very clear.
